I am playing with Pandora and decided I was in the mood for a Roy Rogers station. The singing cowboys started singing (and their fiddlers started fiddling, and their guitarists strumming), and Maggie (the one in utero) started dancing around, Bridey (the 20 month old) started swaying and singing along (well, cooing), and Emma (3 1/2) started bouncing and giggling.

I don't know why, but this makes me indescribably happy.

Now Bridget is singing along with "Happy Trails", which she has only heard twice before in her life, but apparently knows the whole chorus to, and Emma is rocking her baby happily to it.

Earlier the two of them were both clapping enthusiasically (in perfect time) to "Barrett's Privateers" by Stan Rogers. And they all three dance when they hear Bob Wills, or the Beatles, or anything with Michael Ducet or John McCusker.

I just think it's awesome that my kids appreciate the music I have always enjoyed listening to. [Smile]

I'm not really sure why this is a thread, I just find it spectacular, and thought I'd share. [Big Grin]

That's super-cute!

I've only used Pandora a couple of times, but I really liked it.

Do your singing cowboys yodel?

Some of them do, but the first song we listened to was just Roy Rogers doing "I'm an Old Cowhand" and it immediately started the happy reaction. [Smile]

I have to be in a very special mood to endure the yodeling cowboy. I can't understand why they yodel.

Because yodeling is awesome, and very sexy-- when done well. Like banjo picking, and fiddling.

(I think my Okie roots may be showing when I say things like that...)

That's darling! The eighteen-month-old I nanny for has a similar reaction to Elvis. He's an especially big fan of "Don't Be Cruel".

Oh, Hank, isn't that a great age to watch kids interact with music? There was a little one I used to watch who adored classical music at that age, and would conduct it! He was so cute. And I remember my brother singing "Hard Day's Night" (he was a huge Beatles fan) as he danced on top of the table with my dad's guitar. [Big Grin]

Bridey and I were just watching some music stuff on YouTube, and found a version of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" from the Transatlantic Sessions (we were doing Iris DeMent at the time.) Man, she liked that song! She was dancing and clapping right away and by the second chorus was singing "Be undoken... Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye..."

Either I have totally geeked her out on folk music, or she was just born with impeccable taste. [Big Grin]
