My participation in hatrack is a bit sporadic. Sometimes I go weeks or even months when I check the board little or not at all. So its not surprising that I miss out on lots of things.

The one that I find most confusing is when long time users change their names. I start wondering what happened to "so and so" and then eventually find out that they are now posting under a different name.

A number of hatrackers post under multiple names. Maybe they have different names depending on which computer they are using, or an alter ego, or a name they assumed so they wouldn't cross some "landmark" threshold number or maybe they just lost a password, changed e-mail address or some other series of events that lead to a name change. Sometimes people address Hatrackers by their real world names even though those aren't displayed in hatrack. For those of us who are less active than others, it can get confusing.

So I have a simple request. If you are commonly known by more than one name here, can you please post in this thread and let us all know? If you'd rather keep it secret, I understand. But when a large number of people know, it seems reasonable to let everyone know.

My earliest registration at hatrack was under the name "bonniet". I only used it for a few posts before I switched to "The Rabbit". Every once in a while I post under that name but its very rare. Although some people here know my real life name (Bonnie Tyler), I don't think anyone commonly addresses me by that here.

Started off as Feyd Baron.

Swapped to Architraz Warden when I graduated from College (and as part of my second landmark).

Other than having some fun as Chicken Little on occasion, that's all I've posted on.

I'm katharina most of the time.

I switched to this because 1) Javert is my favorite character in Les Miz, 2) Javert reminded me that I had this handle, and 3) I don't want to be blatantly a girl on Hatrack right now.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Bonnie Tyler ? Didn't you release "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "I Need a Hero," in the 80s?

Very few people here refer to me as Adam (I can count them on one hand), my name in real life, but other than that I'm just Lyrhawn.

You've been posting as Javert Hugo for over six months now.

I think we already have this thread, but I'm too busy/lazy to fight the search engine right now.

I only used one other name back in 1999, but barely posted under it and chose to trash it.

There were a couple names used only in jest, and they were never used to say anything consequential.

I have posted as porcelain girl ever since re-registering in 2000, despite having grown out of the name. But it's easier to just keep it and avoid confusion.

My real name is Sara Ellis, and a few people refer to me as such.

And sometimes CT replies to my posts referring to me as pooka. I wish I had chosen such a swanky handle, but alas, I am not pooka, and pooka is not porce. It must be the lower case p.

Nah. What's true that you used to post mostly under another username.

Posted by Liz B (Member # 8238) on :

Well, probably no one remembers my original username--I posted a little bit as arichan a few years ago, then lost that password or something. I attempted to re-register with about a jillion different names before realizing that hatrack was hating verizon email accounts for some reason, which is how I ended up being Liz B. My real name is Allyson.

katharina will always return. Like King Arthur.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I post almost exclusively under this signon, although I'll break out the old "Jake" account every now and then. I go by Jake in real life, and while most people on here refer to me as Noemon, occasionally you'll see someone call me Jake.

You must be confused. Those songs were released sung by "Gaynor Hopkins" who uses the assume name "Bonnie Tyler" not by "Bonnie Tyler" who uses the assumed name "The Rabbit".

If my name were Gaynor Hapkins I might be inclined to go by "Bonnie Tyler" too.

I don't use other screen names here, but I may be known as dkw and ElJay's younger* brother. I think on rare occasions someone here may refer to me as Brian.

*not "little brother." ElJay is the little one.

I'm so flattered to be mixed up with porce! I posted as mothertree in 2005 and Trisha the Severe Hottie for 666 posts before that. I have quite a few posts as skrika03. I was into the junk I.D./ member number race for a while, but I grew out of it. I'm not even sure I have any of those passwords anymore.

Oh, yeah, I was grinch for Christmas 2004. But it got uglier than I expected.

I've always been Lupus. I had an alt at one point, but I never really used it...more that once or so before my landmark.

People don't seem to do the landmark delay thing much anymore. Then again, you don't really see many landmarks anymore.

Posted by Strider (Member # 1807) on :

I should also disclose that I have no idea who Sho'nuff's Posse is. Just some random group of people posting under one screen name who supported my cause I guess...

edit-heh, I think that thread was a dobie of an "empty threads" thread. not bad... [Smile]

My original username was jRc, and I also posted as Punchdrunk for a while, way back when.

I've got a few others that I rarely use, like Homestarrunner and Thnikkaman.

I hereby challenge Jon Boy to make a complete list of all his usernames.

JonBoy, I challenge thee!

ClaudiaTherese, CT, my given name (not using any more), Glaphyra the Righteous (from my Saint's Day), and maybe some obvious throwaways that I've mostly forgotten, such as Cutpurse Tinselpants (for Talk Like a Pirate Day, I think).

Oh, also CIaudiaTherese. <- capital i, not lowercase L
And GIaphyra the Righteous

Tatiana

ak

aka

ana kata

Those are the main 4 I've posted under. I have a few others as well.

=D-
is a symbol for an And Gate in logic circuits. And Gate was a nickname of mine in electrical engineering school because my name sounds similar to that, and one fob Chinese lab TA I had couldn't pronounce my name at all, so I told him to just call me And Gate. [Smile]

Draetakenna
is one that I took out but I've rarely posted under it. It's another nickname of mine.

Elbereth Gilthoniel, also, I think I took out Arwen Evenstar.

That's all I can think of. I mostly have only posted under the first 4.

I can't log in as Arwen, though. Maybe it was Galadriel I got. I feel sure I nabbed an elvenchick name at some point. But at most another 10 or so posts so still in the low 14k posts total. [Smile]

That makes no sense as they have the sounds, tah, tea, on, naw, in Chinese. He could have easily said those in succession. Tell him to come talk to me so I can reprimand him.

Never as a screen name. [Smile] People do call me that, though, for some odd reason.

Posted by Tatiana (Member # 6776) on :

BlackBlade, the way he said "and gate" sounded a whole lot like my name. (I didn't go by Tatiana then.) I think it was just the spelling that threw him, with two silent Es. English really does have weird spellings.

Jon Boy, I'm completely in awe of your user names. It's not so much the long list of names, it's the fact that you remember them and the passwords that go along with them. Don't you have to have a different e-mail for each?

You have a spreadsheet on them...don't you!

Ruth was originally Diosmel Duda. For reasons I cannot remember, I registered that variant.

Tammy: They all use the same e-mail address. I wasn't aware that you couldn't register multiple accounts with the same address anymore. They must've changed that since I stopped collecting usernames. And yes, I do have a text document (not a spreadsheet) with the whole list.

Tom: Hey, let's not forget to blame Pat, too.
