Anything to be contrary, I guess

I'd really like to see McCain get the nomination, now. It would be just too hilarious to see Coulter either eat her words, or campaign for Hillary.

Who's Coulter? [Razz]

Posted by Samprimary (Member # 8561) on :

Ann Counter: Pervez Musharraf cuddly, not a dictatorial fascist.

Ann Coulter: If the world was the way I wanted it, there would be no Jews or interracial couples

Ann Coulter: It is a personal dream of mine that women never be able to vote, because women are stupid voters

Ann Coulter: Likes contradicting herself in a single article

I know this is not exactly a news flash to most people, but for those select few: if you trust Ann Coulter as an honest and respectable viewpoint, you are an idiot.

They're just trying to wake people up to supporting Romney going into Super Tuesday. A lot would have to happen, though if McCain only wins blue states, you can see how that might look. Fortunately, not every state is either red or blue.

I don't know how it is for other conservatives. I can't listen to these sorts of people. But then, Huckabee is polling to win about 5 states on Tuesday last I checked. [Dont Know]

Blech. That does not endear me to Romney. And I like Romney!

It's simple. The mouthpieces of Conservatism in 2000 went for GWB from the start. Romney is essentially the successor, in terms of policy, so they want him. Mcain differs too much on some issues to get their endorsement.

Limbaugh is a big Romney proponent.

Hm, if Coulter is willing to stump for Hillary, that might push people into Obama's camp.

Just thinking about voting for the same person that Coulter will vote for turns my stomach.

I think John McCain represents a real threat to the hate-mongering wing of the Republican party and media aparatus. They don't want the country to be brought together. They don't want the aisle to be crossed. And they want issues like immigration to remain "We need to get rid of those filthy illegals." They are actively pursuing their culture war.

President John McCain would seriously threaten all of these.

So the question is now, what's the bigger majority among American voters? The ones who want divisive, partisan politics? Or the ones who want actual leadership?

I am somewhat comforted by the fact that she isn't a Ron Paul supporter.

And who is offering actual leadership, Chris?

I'm not a fan of McCain myself. It just seems he plays both sides of the fence. I would still support him over Hillary, however, I wouldn't support McCain over Obama.

Both Obama and McCain are, in my opinion, offering at least the illusion of leadership. It remains to be seen whether either would actually accomplish it. And both have (different) policy positions I disagree with.

But I think that Clinton and Romney would both continue the bitter partisanship and imperial presidency that has been the hallmark of the last 7 years, and I can overlook some policy differences in exchange for restoring the balance of government.

Anne Coulter is Hillary Clinton.

Have you ever seen the two of them together at the same time?

Split personality syndrome with the added complication that they are, in fact, the same basic personality.

Ann Coulter is a "Picasso Conservative"--one willing to cut off her nose to spite her face by voting for Hillary should McCain be the GOP nominee.

Lupus, what if McCain asked Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice to be his veep running mate? That way, the Republican ticket would be able to offset the appeal of a woman as Dem nominee if Hillary wins it, or the appeal of a black if Obama wins it; or both of them if Hillary and Obama are on the same ticket. Condy Rice is easily the smartest person in government. If McCain-Rice win, and it should be necessary for Rice to be president, then the U.S. would have the most intelligent president it has ever had, JFK included.

Boy, I thought this thread started on a weird premise. I admit, though, that Rice is an excellent pianist.

I don't get the analogy. I mean I'm not aware of picasso's works largely lacking noses and if we're talking lopping off parts of one's head, that seems like a much closer match to van gogh.

The rest of that all is even more confusing!

Yeah, I think it's Van Gogh you're thinking of, and it was his ear, not his nose.

And why not go for the trifecta and elect a black Mormon woman: Gladys Knight.

I mean you could call her the "Tycho Brahe Conservative" and that would sorta work. I guess. When she dies from not going to the bathroom.

Posted by Dan_raven (Member # 3383) on :

Marie Antoinette conservative.

Basically, lots of folks want to chop her head off to stop her tongue from moving.

Posted by Glenn Arnold (Member # 3192) on :

Yeah, but Coulter wouldn't tell them to eat cake.

Posted by Lisa (Member # 8384) on :

Heh.

Posted by Ron Lambert (Member # 2872) on :

Did I make that mistake again? Picasso instead of Van Gogh? Well, I wasn't an art major. Too bad--"Picasso Conservative" is more alliterative than "Van Gogh Conservative." I'm not sorry, I just regret getting caught. [Smile]

But a grudging thanks to those who pointed out the error.

I'm pretty sure she's just lying. She's trying to influence the primary. If John McCain wins, she can't afford to not support him in as nasty a way as possible.

Posted by Samprimary (Member # 8561) on :

The 'problem' is that her image is such trash at this point that she probably does as much harm as good with her endorsements.

Posted by Ron Lambert (Member # 2872) on :

The Van Gogh Conservatives seem to think candidates like Sen. McCain are being unfaithful to them. But McCain never swore wedding vows to the conservatives. The conservatives joined themselves to the Republican Party, hoping they could take it over. A good analogy for the situation now is that the VG Conservatives are like a mistress threatening to betray the leading Republican candidate if he does not leave his wife--the Republican moderate majority.

Posted by Samprimary (Member # 8561) on :

Would you mind explaining to us the background behind the idea of how conservatives do not control the Republican party and other non-conservative non "VG" Republicans (and/or VG conservatives betraying the Republicans) so that you might help me make sense of that or whatever.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Lots of people have conservative values but are not deeply religious, or if they are they support their religion but think there should be a clear role for each.

Not every conservative is Christian either.

Perhaps Coulter is just angling for the Democratic VP slot?

Nothing could unite Democrats and Republicans in anger as much as a Clinton-Coulter ticket!

Posted by Glenn Arnold (Member # 3192) on :

I think it would just confuse people.
