We have both children and goats.

We had goat kids, but then they grew up. We'll have a bunch more here in a couple of months, though. Yes, in a couple of months, we'll be kidding. I'm serious!

Incidentally...what do you call your children when you address them all together?

For example, when I was trying to get them dressed for church yesterday, I said, "Guys, go get your church clothes on."

When I talk about them at work or on my blog, I call them either "my children" or "the troupe."

I don't tend to call them kids; although, now that I think about it, when I talk about the younger two to the older two, I do tend to use the phrase, "the little kids." As in, "No, the little kids aren't coming because they're going to be taking a nap."

I have been known to refer to mine as "minions."

Posted by David G (Member # 8872) on :

Yes - 3 of the human variety. They are our "crew," or sometimes "the kids."

Me too! A baby, that is, not a goat.

My father-in-law has several baby goats, though, if that counts.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

I sometimes call them "chitlins".

Awesome.

How about "potential potluck?"

[Smile]

(Couldn't resist)

Two. I usually call them "The Kids" or "My Kids" when I talk about them collectively.

Individually, I've noticed she's usually "Honey," "B," or "Little One" (not so little anymore, I guess).

He's pretty much always "Buddy."

That is, when I don't use their actual names. Or expletives.

[Angst] I've never really considered bring children as a potluck dish...

No. No kids here.

Ok. So Sasha has been asking me for a week to type something to my friends. Time has been scarce and I rarely get on the computer at home when he's awake. So this morning I had five minutes, so he begged. He typed the question in himself.

He will type more tonight I am sure.

For breakfast. It was tasty.

Posted by just_me (Member # 3302) on :

Yup, one

and another on the way

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Two, and a third soon.

Unless he means goats. In which case, no.

Posted by maui babe (Member # 1894) on :

I've raised half a dozen, but they can no longer be called children, I fear. I never did call them kids. I also raised goats for a time, so I had kids then.

My youngest daughter would get quite offended if anyone referred to her as a kid. She'd let you know in no uncertain terms that a kid was a baby goat and she was NOT a goat.

I have a sixth grader, a second grader, and a preschooler.

*resists urge to call her a kid*

I'm very tickled by the term "childebeast" . . . except my delightful son is now a teen . . . so would that make him a "teenebeast" or a "beastly teen" or a . . . . sorry -- bad joke. He's still my sweet angel boy, no matter how old he is nor how many expletives I tie on to the beginning or end of his name . . . *grin*

Yes, Sasha -- I have one offspring (providing you mean of the human sort . . . ) otherwise, nope! No kids.

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

Yes, and I will have another one in a few months.

I am in so much trouble when he hits his teens.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure none of our work-studies would get it if I called them "minions."

Scott, when addressing them it's "you guys"; when referring to them in third person it's "the kids," "my kids," or "my crew."

My ex-wife's boss was Connie, and we used to joke that she was Connie's underminion.

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

I still call them my babies sometimes, though the oldest generally objects to that.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Two daughters, ages 14 and 12. I like "minions," though. [Wink] No goatly kids, but my boss has four. She has no human children, just goats and dogs and a boyfriend. It's kind of a tossup as to which of them is more ... work.

Yes, I'm a father.

I have one son, and he'll be 17 in a couple of days (G'd willing). His name is Ephraim. Which is pronounced like this: eh-FRY-im. I tell people, I don't bake 'im. I don't boil 'im, I fry 'im. His nickname is "Fry". For his birthday, I'm giving him two button up shirts, a new hoodie sweatshirt, a docking station for his iPod that will play the music on speakers and charge the pod up all at the same time. (As a surprise, I'm getting him a gift certificate to the bookstore and to iTunes). And an ice cream cake.

I haven't decided if I will make the ice cream cake myself or buy one at the ice cream shop.

What do you think I should do, Sasha? Ice cream is his favorite food. I bet I could make a really nice one, too. But I probably couldn't decorate it as neatly as the professional ones. Mine would probably look lumpy. Um, homey.

Now you have to tell us if you have any kids.

Three, and I call the boys "boybarians".

I've decided to make an ice cream cake. And since my boy is crazy about cookie dough ice cream, I'm going to make a whole bottom crust out of chocolate chip cookie dough.

I have two of them. I have a word that I call them, although I'm not sure how to spell it. It sounds like "churns" but with two syllables. "Churrins," maybe. And I have no goats, but I am a God-C'aunt* to two nannies and a billy, and the nannies should be kidding soon. I'll be all kinds of kidful!

*C'aunt= My C'nephew's word for me. I am his mother's cousin, but I was partially raised in her home, by her parents. In that way, I filled the role of aunt when he was born. He is the one with the goats.

No kids (of either sort) for me.

(I don't think they're allowed in the dorms.)
