Currently I have formatted by 160GB HD and after a failed attempt at installing a Pre service pack 1 XP professional disk (without the needed minimum drivers nothing works and i couldn't connect to the net to get SP1-3) I gave up and install Vista instead and will have to content myself with install XP and dual boot it with Vista later upon downloading a iso of XP pro w/ SP3(I have a legitimate key) in contract with my original plan of dual booting by installing xp first then vista).
After 3 hours of updates later and activating vista and instaling service pack two I haveth ran my baseline benchmarker.
I have a score of 630 losing points due to a slow hard drive.

Sounds nice. What kind of power supply? You might need a lot of wattage if you're going to run two video cards.
Did you travel forward in time, or do you mean service pack one for vista?

Nice.
I had a similar issue with XP and a laptop I set up for my Father. Basically XP install software didn't recognise the SATA disc and I had to rummage in the BIOS to get the thing to work. I'll dig out basic step by step if you're interested. However if you're cool with having a dual-boot then why not run linux too? I think there's even a Mac-OS that has been "tweaked" to run on standard PC architecture*, so you can pander to your inner Mac Fanboy....
*depending on 1001 hardware considerations etc...

I have linux on a pentium 3, he point of xp is so that games that dont work right on vista can work instead on XP, much like how on my older computer i had an xp partition and a win2k partition for civilization iv.
I ordered the parts through my friends dad and once the parts arrived I helped assemble it, I get the distributors price not the retail one.

You could run 3dmark and you'll get to compare your results with a lot of others.

Kidding aside, that sounds like an awesome computer. For gaming I'm guessing? I'm jealous. Even more so when StarCraft 2 finally comes out. My 2.4 GHZ Intel Core Duo with 2 GB of RAM and 256MB of video RAM ought to do.. decent. I hope. I have no idea what the minimum requirements will be.

I have a 20.1" Widescreen LCD.
Also I am one of those freaks that cannot go to sleep without the sound of humming in the background.
Gaming, work, compiling code, etc etc.
And Vista works fine now that it finally has a service pack.

I have a very similar case from Thermaltake. I'm glad to see you didn't buy one of the cases that look like they were designed for use by the Power Rangers. I never understood those.
I like my case, but the tool-less brackets for drive and card installation are junk. Luckily I was able to just pop them out and use screws. How was the build experience with your case?

Probably not, but it does include two nice graphics cards, as opposed to the pretty crappy (and unupgradeable) graphics card built into an iMac. Not to mention a faster processor and more RAM.
And "better" is subjective.

Yeah well, It runs half-life 2 good enough for me and that's the newest game I have. I'm not a hardcore computer gamer, I have my xbox 360.
The iMac has a crappy video card? I would say it's more geared for media processing rather than gaming. The ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO is a mid-grade card from the reviews I'm reading. I'm used to a 128MB video card from my old dinosaur Dell I used to use.
I'm just joking with him since he said "Apple you have been pwned". I used to be a Apple-hater, Jon, if you remember. Let's just say I prefer Macs now, they're not better. I still run Windows XP SP2 on a separate partition on my iMac as well for the few programs that are incompatible, like Half-Life 2.

The HD 2600 series of cards were marketed as mid-range graphics cards, but they were closer to the low end. They really pale in comparison to the HD 2900 cards or even the new mid-range cards, the HD 3850 series.
And anyway, I don't think the graphics card matters much at all if you're just using it for video or photo editing. Apple could probably just go with integrated video and most users wouldn't notice.

Fair enough. The computer meets my needs. Photo/video editing, music, email inet browsing etc. I still much prefer my iMac to any PC I have ever had.
