I'm done. I've seen threads get locked. Oftentimes for good reason. But a thread of mine was deleted. Because someone got their feelings hurt because I made joke about how he doesn't have a sense of humor (proving my point twice over). My thread was deleted. Not locked, with an explanation as I've seen happen so many times, even when no explanation was needed. No warning, as I've received only once, over a year ago. Only once because I thought PJ saw what many of you never could see, that my ooooh so stupid and harebrained posts which are soooo offensive to your sensibilities and to your intelligence were actually nowhere approaching the offensiveness of what I received, but I always took it in good humor because it was the spirit in which I wrote them. Passionate and over-the-top at times, sure, but I enjoyed that.

I was intrigued by the diversity of this place. I was impressed by the intelligence of it's guests, and I have been touched by some of the stories as they've played out, between real people who care for each other. I never got involved personally, because I've always felt like an outsider. And now I know it to be true.

I don't know if this place has changed, or just my perception. But it seems so stifling now, compared to... I don't know when. Not too long ago. I know plenty of you will say good riddance. I'm only doing this because I feel the same.

I know it seems like a small thing. It was a joke thread, to carry on what was happening in another. I've made several like it: usually one or two responses and then it dies, as it should; as was intended. But it represents something to me. I don't belong here. I don't fit in here. There is a conformity that is expected, and those who step out of line will be whittled away until they give up or go away. It's insulation to you, but it's a vacuum to me.

I will begin by deleting all the threads I started. If anybody wants to save something off them, do it before tomorrow is over. After that I'll start deleting the rest of my over-1000, often very wordy posts. It should take awhile, but I don't care to leave anything here. I can't do anything about my statements that have been quoted, but oh well.

Oh well.

You do realize that you wouldn't actually see a thread that has been deleted, right? So it's not as if this hasn't happened before to other people.

No, because you made an entire thread whose purpose was to mock another poster. That is not allowed here and has been stopped many times. (I'm not sure why whole threads designed to mock non-posters are OK, but that's an entirely different issue - the rule in question is consistently enforced.)

Had you made a post like that in the thread where you and Alcon originally got into it, it would most likely still be there.

Oh, the drama......

...personally, I don't think this place has changed that much since I got here. Really, I may lurk more than post, but I still really like seeing the kinds of interactions on here- how some posters share completely different beliefs, but MOST of the time, have enough respect for each other that they won't resort to blatant insults. Not that I'm saying that happened, I didn't even see the other thread, but The amount of maturity here is something I've always admired.

Regardless of how much I may have disagreed with your posts, Resh, I really do wish you the best, and I hope you find someplace, online or in real life, where you can find the kind of connections you were looking for here.

See you in a week!

Just FYI, trying to delete all of your posts, you will most likely crash the forum. Every time someone has tried to delete large numbers of posts, we've crashed. It will most likely make it so it takes long enough for you to do your deletions that it's not worth it.

Not really trying to take a stand one way or another, but it seems to me that, if for archiving reasons only, some notice should be given before a thread is deleted.

Also, mass post deletions are, as ElJay said, by their nature damaging to the forum software and to the community at large. Please don't do it.

OK, because you asked nicely, and because I don't want to screw things up, I wont.

Thank you. Even though you and I rarely agree on anything, it would be a shame to lose those discussions. Some of them were fairly interesting until the flames began to rise.

Best of luck.

Ah, the 'I'm taking my ball and going home' thread. How I've missed you.

As Primal said, see you in a week.

Thanks for changing your mind about deleting your threads, Reshpickobiggle.

And I sincerely thank you for serving the US in wartime.

Reconsider leaving, please. [Smile]
