The Necessity of Fighting Dirty, from the 1943 English film "The Live and Death of Colonel Blimp."

Seige of Minas Tirith.

One of the most touching scenes is at 7:25 and you see the enemy swarming into Minas Tirith and the Gondorian soldiers at the main battlements shooting INTO the City... and you know they are completely surrounded and soon to die and they are still trying to save the capital...or at least go out with a fight.

Glory - The Assault on Fort Wagner

Sorry for the fact that the best I could find was a french dub. I still can't watch this without getting goosebumps, it's amazing, the music is matched perfectly, it's the culmination of an emotional riptide throughout the movie...and the end is so completely tragic.

Gettysburg - The Defense of Little Round Top

Really half this movie is a giant awesome scene. I've been on the ground where he made that charge, looked down the hill, looked over my shoulder at Devil's Den behind me. It's amazing that they actually shot it at Gettysburg. I love his speech to the deserter Maine soldiers, I love Pickett's Charge, I love it when Reynolds arrives and I'm sad when he's killed. There are a ton of excellent scenes in this movie. It's easily in my top three of favorite war movies, and top 10 favorite films, of all time.

I've got some other favorites, but a lot of them are one liners like when Harrison Ford says "Get off my plane!" in Air Force One or when Vader says "Luke, I am your father" in Empire Strikes Back. And there are some scenes I don't know where I'd find a clip of them, like the part in the Glenn Miller Story when the band plays during the rocket attack, or when the pool opens during the dance in (I think) It's a Wonderful Life, or Fred Astaire's drunk dance scene in Holiday Inn.

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

Followed by weeping fit collapsed on the bottom of the red-carpeted stairs, skirts cunningly spread around her, when Scarlett raises her eyes in glorious hope of winning Rhett back, because, "After all, tomorrow is another day."

The Princess Bride swordfight

Faramir's charge in RotK

"What's the pool up to?" in Saving Private Ryan

Tripp's punishment in Glory (again, the music is astounding)

John Coffey's execution in The Green Mile

Homer's dad rescuing his friend from an abuser in October Sky (Chris Cooper is fantastic in that movie)

Kign Arthur vs. the Black Knight in Quest for the Holy Grail

The Dojo scene in The Matrix

The pull back in Ratatouille

The last image before the screen goes dark in Monsters, Inc.

"Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner!" from Curse of the Black Pearl

and, my current all-time favorite, the opening credits of Serenity (the single, unedited, re-entry sequence shot).

Where boo says "Kitty"? Possibly the most touching, satisfying ending I've ever seen. Good call.

The opening scene of two towers with Gandalf and the Balrog fighting.

The scene where Homer shows his dad the medal he won at the Science Fair and tells him he's his hero.

Saving Private Ryan D-Day scene.

Seconded. I tried really hard to find a clip of it, no luck.

Also seconded.

The launch sequence from Apollo 13. Also the landing sequence.

The scene in A Beautiful Mind where he's being told he's being considered for the Nobel Prize and everyone in the Princeton dining area gives him their pens. Right at about 7:30 in this clip. Also the speech he gives at the ceremony afterwards.

The ending of Good Will Hunting. Son of a *****. Stole my line.

Also from Good Will Hunting. Will's best friend telling him he owes it to his friends to use his brains to make a better life for himself. Warning: Fairly foul language.

Another one from Good Will Hunting. There are a lot of good ones in that movie... You're going to realize there are two certainties: one, don't do that. And two, you dropped $150 grand on an education you coulda gotten for a buck fifty in late charges at the public library.

The look on Sully's face is worth the entire movie.

I have some other favorites but I'll try to let others have a chance here.

Children of Men had a lot of good scenes. "Pull my finger!"

And when they come past the troops near the end.

I hope there's not any spoilers there.

This is obviously only a great scene of its type, but I still find the opening "sock" scene of the first American Pie to be hilarious. I love how the kid's trapped sitting on his bed with his pillow on his lap, and how his mom nonchalantly picks ithe pillow up only to see the sock and immediately exclaim, "Oh! Oh! Oh!", which suggests that even though she appears straight-laced she knows exactly why someone would be wearing a sock there.

The big scene with the pie isn't as funny to me, though I do like the "We'll just tell your mom ... we ate it all." line at the end. Maybe it's because of the image of eating that pie that the line suggests.

THANK YOU. This is, possibly, the MOST misquoted line in film history. How many times have I seen it written "Luke, I am your father"?!?!?

Not that it bothers me or anything...you know...I could care less, right? :-)

From that movie, I have a completely different pick for a favorite scene.

(EDIT: response to Omega M.)

By the way has anyone seen the film I linked in the OP? If not, what do you think of that scene?

You can't handle the truth!
So inaccurate as to courtroom procedure, but such a well delivered speech.

One of my personal comedic great moments in cinematic history: Death to Smoochy.

WARNING: Contains strong language, adult concepts - and a lot of funny.

Norma Desmond losing her mind at the end of Sunset Boulevard.

"Okay... You are now firing a gun at your imaginary friend..."

"What they ought to say is... Evil prevails." (Lord of War)

Opening of "Muppet Movie" (gotta get an upper in here!)

And time for some more obscure stuff, courtesy of Stephen Chow [Wink]

The 'Shaolin Soccer' karaoke scene, cracks me up every time (though it probably loses something in translation)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ0PCQwJP5E

The kung fu/cooking training montage in 'God of Cookery' culminating in the secret of the folding chair
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtYNu8LV50c

Other favorite Stephen Chow moments would be the first 15 minutes or so of 'Forbidden City Cop' as it parodies old wuxia films and James Bond at the same time, the sequence following the reference to original Chow Yun Fat film in 'All For the Winner', and the parodies of John Woo films in 'King of Comedy.' All too old to find on youtube unfortunately.

Gandalf's charge down the hill to aid the battle at Helms Deep. V for Vendetta when E gets out of the prison and realizes...

The Incredibles when Dash giggles cuz he can run on water...actually that whole sequence. [Razz]

Aliens "Get away from her you BITCH" (honorable mention, "it's game over man!")

The big twist at the end of Sixth Sense

GAwd...ther'es too manyh!

Oh yeah..."Intensify forward firePOWER!....TOO LATTTE!" Return of the Jedi A-wing crashes into SSD bridge. [Razz]

The end of V for Vendetta when Parliament blows up and all that really neat stuff happens.

The tap-dancing scene from Garden State, where Natalie Portman tap-dances for Zach Braff. The music and the scene are just perfect.

The speech President Shepherd gives in The American President. "You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag, it also has to be one it's citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that. Celebrate that in classrooms, then we can stand up and sing about the land of the free."

The sword flying through the air and the charge of the Scottish at the end of Braveheart. Great, great song.

And my personal favorite...

The end of Major League when "the Indians win it, the Indians win it, oh my God the Indians win it!"

Actually I think its, "Kitty!" But the exclamation point barely makes it. I also agree Sully's expression is worth the price of admission.

Ian's parents meet Toula's family-- complete with lamb roasting on a spit in the front yard-- in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

The redemption/death of Darth Vader in ROTJ.

The final scene of End of Evangelion. Those words being spoken in the coldest voice imaginable. *shudder*

The final scene of The Godfarther Part 1. That lie, which makes everything so clear.

Memento: When the lead finally asks who he's been talking to on the phone the first half of the movie.

Star Wars: Han Solo shot first. (Had to say it. )

The scene in Persona culminating in both the character's faces spliced together in a creepily symbolic manner.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: Where the sheriff is trying to round up a posse, warning that the titular duo are getting away... while the two of them watch from a nearby balcony, celebrating their robbery.
