I was just in the parking lot of the nearest B&N. It was all but desserted save for me and some people heading off in to the movie theater at the opposite end of the lot. No one wants to be out in this heat. I was a third of a way to the store when I heard a very hoarse, adult woman-sounding voice cry out: "SIR!"

I paused, turned around in a circle. The people headed to the movies weren't looking my way. It didn't seem to be coming from any of the parked cars. I continued on.

"Sir! -SIR-! Don't IGNORE me, SIR!"

I stopped again, turned around again. Several times. The movie people had entered the theater. No one in or around the cars. No one sprawled out on the sun-baked pavement. No one at all.

"Hello? Hello? Is someone there?"

No response.

Very confused, I wandered the parking lot some. Nobody. Just cars. The heat. But the very moment I turned back to the store-

"SIR!"

"Where -are- you?"

No response. After another couple of minutes I went into the store, over-heated and frustrated.

I'm going to be wondering about this for a while.

I have it on good authority that the voice of God is that of a hoarse adult woman.

God doesn't call people "Sir". Thinks it sounds too much like Marcie talking to Peppermint Patty.

Hoarse like Tara Reid, or hoarse like Patty and Selma?

You were on candid camera. It was a recording meant to disorient you and cause you mild irritation, while causing the studio audience great laughter.

Or it was a very small person hiding in your shadow.

Either way, this is clearly a comedy, not a mystery.

Heat and invisible voices? Drink more water, and go lie down for a while.
