this verbosity is overboard. I mean, i dunno what it is — might just be bush fatigue setting in — but it's like he expects us to care too much. Like he's hollowly attempting to elevate complaints into a bloviated fervor. To me it just .. it comes off as if Olbermann watched Howard Beale's apoplexy in Network and said "for our show let's smugly mass-produce that sentiment for like twenty minutes every day."
I mean, don't get me wrong. It all mostly seems like perfect subject material to rant at. It's just that he needs better, more low-key writers if he's going to pull it off in a way which doesn't get so ... wearisome Posted by Sterling (Member # 8096) on :
What can you do? The administration is wearisome, and people aren't nearly as angry about its deeds as they should be if there's a serious chance of a McCain presidency perpetuating many of the same blunders.

Olberman is an amateurish hack. He's the liberal equivalent of Morton Downey Jr.
There's nothing anyone can get from him that they can't get more rationally, persuasively, or better informed someplace else.

I agree. I think we're at the point now where so many things to get up in arms about have passed by that we're just supersaturated. I'm filled to the brim, and have little capacity left for real outrage, even for simmering anger.
Whenever something happens now it's just resigned defiance. I guess I'm not upset that someone is keeping his level of outrage high, even if he is bombastic about it. He generally is making pretty decent, cogent points too, even if they are wrapped in a blanket of RAWR!!!

I did love his rip on Ann Coulter, though. It was one of the best things i have seen, petty much exactaly what I would have wanted to say at that point.

I got to this point with him many months ago. His "special comments" would be much more effective if they were about half the length, stripped of a lot of adjectives, and delivered in something that approached a calm tone, rather than projecting barely controlled outrage.
It all gets pretty tiring. I watch the show, but I almost always leave the room or read something when he does one of his "special comments."

I agree that he does go over the top sometimes. I am glad, though, that he serves to remind those of us who are "outrage fatigued" that these things are still worthy of our outrage. And I hope that he is reaching people who are not yet outraged enough.

I find Olberman's rants weird. First, they are really excessively long. In this clip, it took him 10 minutes to make three points.
Second, he seems to get apoplectic over the strangest things.
So what if Bush says he gave up Golf because of the Iraq war? Its not like Bush complaining and moaning about his sacrifice, an interviewer asked him and he provided an answer.
GW Bush lied to start an illegal war that has killed tens if not hundreds of thousands of people. He has supported torture, endorsed warrentless spying in the US, violated treaty after treaty, trashed the constitution and sought to obliterate basic rights like Habeas Corpus. He even used his power of pardon to cover his own crimes.
After all that, it just seems odd to see someone get apoplectic about Bush giving up Golf. To me, Olberman just comes across as mentally imbalanced.

He reminds me of a liberal version of Coulter. They both go way over the top in order to make some sort of strange point...and both come across as unbalanced when they do it.

Olberman almost always has a legitimate point. He just gets way too carried away with his little rants.
Coulter is either completely deranged or evil incarnate.

I couldn't listen to the whole thing. Even when I was starting to understand what he was trying to say, it seemed like he was trying to seem more intelligent than he really is.
Also, the patronizing way he kept saying 'sir' really got annoying.
