...this was attached to Hancock, but doesn't seem to be online yet, nor does the film URL work...yet.

All I can say is, it doesn't look very promising. The original, dated as it is, became a classic for a good reason: It's good.

This remake look like another star-bloated, over-produced CGI-fest. Feh.

*sigh* God damnit.

I was less than impressed by the trailer. It looked kind of cool for 20 seconds, but went pretty steadily downhill after that.

Well...it -was- kinda cool when the authorities freaked out about Klaatu's power level being over 9,000.

I thought the original sucked.

Edit:

Welcome to Hatrack. You're wrong.

Somalian's bitter that it detracts attention from his own favorite 1951 genre film, Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man. [Big Grin]

(Kidding, kidding)

I had the movie poster in my dorm last year.

"Leave well enough alone" means precisely squat when a buck can be made.

Clearly the answer then is to not allow a buck to be made. The Day the Earth Stood Still is one of those movies that should not under any circumstances be remade. It's a perfect classic that cannot be improved upon and its message is unharmed by it's campy old special effects.

We are not pleased...

Keanu Reeves is playing Klatuu?! What?!

There is no curse in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of men strong enough for this treachery.

Other cast listings:

quote:

Keanu Reeves ... Klaatu

Jennifer Connelly ... Helen

Kathy Bates

John Cleese ... Dr. Barnhardt

Jaden Smith ... Jacob

Jon Hamm ... Dr. Granier

Aaron Douglas ... Sgt. Winter

Keanu spilled the beans: The new film is replacing the old film's pro-peace message with something else. (He seemed to hint that it's now a go-green message)

I agree completely, but the people who call shots like these aren't movie lovers like you and me. They're business men/women. For execs, when profit is on the line, aesthetics, culture, and timelessness takes the proverbial backseat.

Remakes and sequels are a cornerstone of modern movie business. S.Darko? Dark Crystal 2? Let's make Citizen Kane more modern. This is not going to stop anytime soon.

All we can do is cringe at the announcements and hope that someone in their ranks has a shred of common sense or at least some decency and respect for good movies.

Here's the teaser...

...though it probably won't be up long.

Like I said, it doesn't look very promising.

I'm gonna just go cry in a corner now.

Here is the official trailer

Hey, it has Jennifer Connelly along with a decent cast... Maybe there's hope?

But... what does this have to do with the original? It doesn't look like a remake at all!

I was all ready to simply not want to watch this movie, and then I saw the trailer. Other than they should have found a different actor to play the lead, I have become interested.

I like the original movie. However, I always thought it showed its age way too clearly. This movie might still be not that good, but compared to the Sci-Fi that is currently getting made (is there any that doesn't have a comic book character?) this is refreshing.

I dunno Jennifer Connely is one of the most attractive human beings I have ever seen.

"OK, we need to find an actor who can be an alien devoid of emotion and self expression... Hey, I know!"

Let's make Citizen Kane more modern.
If that ever happens, I might just snap and kill everyone around me.
