Amazing feat to compete in that many Olympics.

She is definitely impressive.

There are two reasons of the many reasons I like her:

1) When she decided to comeback after her second kid, she got a sprint coach, a conditioning coach, a masseuse, and a nanny. It took a village and a lot of cash to make her the fastest woman in America, but it also took a lot of commitment. She had to go in whole-hog, and maybe I hear-- in myself and in others-- too many excuses about too many things, but it's nice to see what commitment looks like, especially to something so fragile as an olympic sprint performance and a 41 year old body.

2) She is all about being clean. Once again, I hear so many people conjuring excuses to take pills to fulfill their responsibility, it's nice to know that Torres is an outspoken advocate for clean swimming, especially considering the vulnerable position it puts her in, considering the sly drug use in the sport in the US and in the world.

“You can DNA test me, blood test me, urine test me, whatever you want to do,” Torres said in her first statements after arriving in Omaha. “Just test me because I want people to know that I am doing this right, that I’m 40, 41 years old and I’m doing this and I’m clean and I want a clean sport. I swam against swimmers who were dirty my entire life and it’s just something I wouldn’t do.”

I love her. And I'd love to be her when I hit 41.

Or at least in something vaguely resembling her physical condition. [Smile]

Super-K and Junebug both got into a summer swimming league this year and love it. They were very excited about the Olympic trials.
