These strips are from a 1950s children's magazine. Also included are a couple of "Uncle Funny Bunny & Chumpy" strips.

The interesting thing: I could swear strips like Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Hagar The Horrible, etc still use these exact same gags.

Loki was one of the names I was considering for my cat. I actually think it fits better than the Merlin he ended up with.

p.s. Yup, does sound like the same style of gag!
