I remember reading The Eye of the World when it first came out back in 1990 and thinking it was pretty neat.
A few books later, my enthusiasm dropped down to "I'll think I'll pick a new series."
I don't know how they're going to adapt these things.

Well. Fair's fair. If there exists a series of books that can benefit from a movie adaptation forcing the action into at most two hours, WoT is it. Certainly they won't lack for things to cut.

I had this conversation with some friends this morning.
Them: It'll have to be a four hour epic each!
Me: Are you kidding? You could cram books 1-4 into the first movie and I'd be happy.
I guess the series still has some fans.

I read them to many moons ago. I really enjoyed the first few books but they to say they are wordy is a bit of an understatement. Once he strayed from the core of 6 characters or so and I hardly ever read a storyline with those originals I lost interest.

I liked the first one, loved the second and third...and the rest were not up to par.

I have a bad feeling someone at Universal might take all the purple gushing about Jordan being the heir to Tolkein too seriously.

I hope they take the adventure story and the action and make the movie with that. The action and adventure of the first three books were a lot of fun. After that, it started to get too long-winded to bother with.
I really hope they leave out all the inner monologue though - "I just don't understand women, but everyone else does." and "Guys are so stupid I have to tug my braid!"

Didn't we learn like fourty seven years ago with Ender's Game that options mean nothing?
I mean seriously, doesn't this just mean we can start the countdown clock for the moment when, in fifteen years, we're all relieved that Brett Ratner's kid is no longer attached to direct?

Well, it means they spent at least a million for the option...though in Hollywood terms that's probably not much to a studio as big and powerful as Universal.

This was a requirement for preventing the actors strike.
They have to produce each book into a movie, keeping the cast the same as long as they don't die.
Since these books go on for ever, and no important character ever dies for goo, this is called Job Security for 100 to 200 actors and actresses (and those are only the Main Characters).

I wonder if the SAG has rules against how often an actress is forced to smooth her skirt. That would produce some holdup on the set.

Rereading my comment it wasn't very clear, but I meant it tongue-in-cheek. I was trying to hint that maybe they overpaid.
