OK, so i wasin my Steam account and talking to some friends when someone told me they played TA. I was like OMFG that was my bestest favorite game. The one problem is that for all the units and maps from 3rdparties, i have no idea where to put them in the folder to be able to use them. If anyone ever played this game and could help me remember, that would be very much appreciated. This game was a real gem.

I still have my game CDs, though I've never used third party units. I loved the game because base defense was so much more fun than other RTS games at the time. My bases used to be defended by rings of aircraft flying in formation along with those huge long-range cannon things. Man, I have lots of good memories of hours spent on that game.

My husband Dragoon loves this game, and he and his friend Twilight--I'm telling you their names so you can Google their message boards if you wish--have coded a lot of new maps, units, etc. for enjoyment.

If you search around you can find them and the Finns and play some.

(Apparently TA is huge with Finnish college students. But you have to play crazy hours.)

It's called Supreme Commander nowadays.

Did supreme commander modding ever take off at all? It seemed like it should be very modifiable, but I never saw that much in the way of mods for it.

Supreme commander is definitely a fun game, though. It wasn't nearly as revolutionary as TA was, but it definitely was leaps and bounds ahead of any RTS I've played in terms of user interface. It had a number of conventions that should become standard within the next decade or so.

i like SC. i never got the expansion. TA was great because of all the 3rd party units and maps. i always play Arm and my base is defended by like 20 gunships on patrol around my base along with several turrets.

im also notorious for flash tank rushes and airlifting enemy commanders early in the game =)

My hubby and son (he's 8) just got the latest SC.

DH always plays Arm too. He has a brother-from-another-mother who always plays Core; they're a good match.

They play tournaments in their online TA community. You really should go check them out. They're always adding new patches and stuff.

Was I the only one that thought--how could anyone remember anything after being totally annihilated?

Sachiko, if your hubby has any chat programs where i could ask him questions about the game in real time that would be great.

I couldn't *stand* Supcom. Pathing sucked so bad I couldn't play the damn game. Some my units got where I wanted em to, some went back to my base. The rest got caught on trees and rocks and piles of loose dirt.

But then, C&C was always my game. (And EA freaking ruined it).

I never had that much problem with pathing, but I did have problems with units spreading out as they walked. At times, it was like a bad kung foo movie. My units would just trickle in and get blasted apart by a smaller and weaker group that stayed cohesive. Yeah, I could keep it from happening by micromanaging, but wasn't one of the huge pre-release points supposed be about controlling strategy rather than tactics?

On the plus side, I found the skirmish AI to be a lot better than the TA AI. Not great, by any means, but much better. Since I sometimes like to play large, long games that are impractical over the internet, this is a big point for me.

OK, so today im considering buying SupCom with the expansion. as a bundle it'sonly $29.99 at gamestop. I've always loved TA and I've played SupCom maybe 2 or 3 times. Is this a dealworth getting, or is there something else to hold out for?

Oh, btw the game Demigod looks pretty cool to me as well. Red Alert 3 coming out in October looks neat. They added a Japanese oriented faction that is all about transforming units. Go figure.

My DH got it for $20.00 at a retail place here. Hold out.

Darth Mauve--when I heard my husband was helping with mods and he said "It's a sequel to Total Annihilation", I thought, So it wasn't actually that total, then....

They call it Absolute Annihilation; I call it TA-FRTT (Total Annihilation: For Reals This Time!)

I'll try to get links and post them soon. I warn you, though, we're closing on our first house in a few days and we're moving. Plus all the kids. I might not make good on posting a URL for a coupla weeks.

Which brings to mind, how do you know if you are suffering from serial amnesia?
