Hello again Hatrackers,

A while ago a few of us got together and enjoyed some TF2 together. Now I am making the call again to try and get us together. Now that i have graduated from college i'm not writing research papers or doing company analysis reports anymore. This means more time to do whatever. So, let's get together and play some TF2 sometime. for a long time i was running around as [OSC]DaK, with the OSC being a mock clan for a certain author i like. anyway, if you have the game, load it up!

There is also a new update that just came out for the Heavy Weapons Guy. So now the heavy, the pyro, and the medic all have upgrades.

I am an avid Tf2 player.
Just now checking out the heavy updates. I like the arena mode.

nice. my in-game name is [BS]DaK if you would like to add me. let's play a game some time. i havent gotten any of the heavy updates yet. i never play heavy. i do like the arena games though

I'm up for some good ole TF2 bashing.

my steam name is adfectio, same on here, but my profile name is [FLASH]™ Rubber Ducky.

Hit me up, I'm on about every night, and will play most maps, although I prefer capture point to capture the flag.

Which platform are we talking about here?

Posted by Nighthawk (Member # 4176) on :

I tried playing a few weeks ago... and I got crushed. Didn't score a single kill and died like forty times.

I lost my touch, apparently.

I recently got The Orange Box for my birthday.

Is TF2 playable offline with bots? My internet connection is just a step up from a tin can with string.

Posted by scottneb (Member # 676) on :

You can run through the levels in off line mode, but there are no bots unfortunately.

Portal on the other hand, is amazing. If you haven't gone through that yet, you really need to.

I have gone through it and loved it. I just beat the advanced levels, and am now trying to challenge maps.

I got the Orange Box because a friend of mine was overjoyed with the concept of playing TF2 with me (though he won't get into Super Smash Brothers with me...jerk). I'm just learning it right now, but we'll see.

I loved Portal, but I didn't get the weighted companion cube thing. I get the joke about forming an emotional connection to an inanimate object, but it wasn't around long enough for this to make sense to me. Did it speak or something and I just missed it?

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

It didn't speak.

Going through the commentary, they say that the original purpose of the companion cube is to get people to use the cube as a shield on that level, because too many people assumed that it was a running/timing puzzle and didn't even try to use the cube.

It also has the added benefits of teaching you how to use the incinerator and making GLaDOS even more creepy and sinister.

yeah, ive played a few games with adfectio. it's a lot of fun. i prefer ctf, but cp is also fun. we play on the pc. im terribad at FPS games on consoles. so go ahead and add us on your friend list and lets get this going >=)

we had a couple good matches tonight. ricree even joined in. That was cool! The server I help run does mostly cp, but we also have our share of ctf. If you don't like the one we're on, you can always 'rtv'.

[Big Grin]

I just realized on the 11th I played for six hours.

.....in one sitting.

yeah tonight was fun. im not a fan of that WWII looking map we ended on though. everything else was fun though. it was a welcomed vacation from server full of nothing but fatties trying to get achievements.

porter,
Yeah, i read that explanation when I was looking around the internets to see if there was anything more I was missing.

It was just, at the end of that level, the game was acting like I should feel some sort of hesitation about what I was asked to do and I was thinking "Why would I care about this?" I've also seen people writing about this as - as one reviewer put it - a more disturbing choice than harvesting the little sisters in Bioshock. I just didn't feel any sort of sense of loss and didn't see how anyone would.

You just cannot love, MrSquicky.

You are a bad human.

Ah, but that makes me a much more efficient killing machine. GLaDos did its best, but I'm still alive.

I've got the Xenocide on the line. He disagrees.

Hey, I got the orange box a few days ago. My steam profile name is shinigami654, but in-game it's Devotion&Desire. I'd love to get a match going [Smile]

I finished the original Half-Life in twenty-one hours.

So, knowing the levels in TF2 is really, really important, isn't it?

I'm not sure I would say "really, really" But it is pretty important. It certainly helps when you have to get from one place to the other quickly because the other team has your intel, or is capturing a point. Some maps are easier right away than others.

I've played a little TF2. I'm having a little difficulty getting used to not having grenades. (I got sooo many kills with the cluster bomb in TFC.) I haven't really even played enough to customize my player-name, but when I do, I'll let you know.

It's been a long time since the people in my life would let me do something like 21 hours, but I think I had some gaming sessions that came close to that when I was living alone - i wouldn't say "one sitting" because I was getting up to use the bathroom and get something to drink, though.

But I just this week stayed up to 3:30 AM - having to get to work by 8 the next day - playing HL2 Episode 2. It's amazing how FPS games keep me alert (hell, hypnotized) like nothing else can. Good TV shows that I can watch on demand (like Dexter, frinstance) make me WANT to stay up all night, but I can't keep my eyes open.

I did NOT think I was ever going to get past the Striders before the rocket launch. I died about 20 times on that part, I think.

Gonna finish that episode up tonight! I have no idea if I'm a cutscene or hours of gameplay from the end, though.

That was the most frustrating part of the whole series. I put it down and picked it up the next day only to beat it on the first try.

But I won't give away the end. It's far to awesome.

Awesome in a "They're going to be another year and a half or more before getting to part three aren't they ARRRRGHHHH!" kind of way.

It's much more of a WTF?! kind of way that satisfies while it confuses.

I will wait ten years to have a conclusion as long as it's done right.

It's both. I would say knowing how to play a class well is more important, then you need to know the map. having a good knowledge of both is something that comes with practice.
