I have no idea why but I just had the oddest desire to watch the starship troopers movie.
Anyone else get extremely perplexing cravings like that?

Yeah, I watched Merlin a couple of nights ago on a whim. I don't really know why I had the urge to watch it out of the blue, but doing so solidified it as one of my favorite fantasy movies.

but I don't even like the starship troopers movie that much. I think it's cheesy and a bastardization of the novel!

The movie was perfect for me as a 13 year old when I first saw it. You have to remember that it's essentially an envisioning of Heinlein as it would be read by a 13 year old boy with an overactive imagination and little ability to reason logically.

I love that movie for being a bastardization of the novel. It was pretty clear to me that it was made by someone who hates the book.

I liked it because I thought it was in tune with the book's attitude.....if you read anything about what Heinlein said about the book you would realize that it was written tongue in cheek.
Most people just didn't get that, I guess. I loved the little digs about how humans invaded their space first....and the newscaster being interrupted by a raging person who doesn't care about the facts, just about vengeance.
I found the book to be deliberately over the top, so I wasn't surprised the movie was I guess.

But at least the book, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, made some interesting comments about social responsibility, crime, and other social science topics. The movie alluded to those ever so loosely while focusing on battles and gratuitous nudity. No wonder 13-year olds loved this movie! (Myself included, admittedly.). When I did read the novel after seeing the movie, I found the movie to be dissappointing in retrospect.

Agreed Bando. Heinlein's book was a tongue in cheek social commentary wrapped in a military novel. The movie was a tongue in cheek military movie wrapped in a... military movie. Kind of missed the point.
Other really bad urges I get: the car tackling urge. Yes. I get the urge to flying tackle moving cars. So far, I have suppressed these urges.

I'm afraid you must have caught whatever bug I had a week ago, because I too had the unreasonable urge to watch Starship. And much to my chargin I watched it and enjoyed it as well.
My newest craving is a Steakhouse burger from BK and a rereading of Watchmen.

If I remember correctly, the majority of Starship Troopers was completed before it was called Starship Troopers, and before there was a connection to the novel at all. They got the rights aftwards, probably to make more money with the name.

You think Starship Troopers is bad. Yesterday, of my own free will and choice, I just watched She's the Man.
In my defense, I'd just read Twelfth Night, and I was curious. Also, the trailer makes the movie look much funnier than it actually is.
Damn those preview editors. Damn them all to hell!

By the bye, Steakhouse burger: adequate. I had in my possesion a clipped advertisment that allowed for a second at no charge. I did not partake in another though, as one was plenty enough.

for a long long time now, I've been wanting to rewatch The Shadow with alec baldwin. it was on encore one day but i only saw the last 20 minutes. and for some reason they didnt have in the encore's on demand.
not a favorite movie by any means, i just really want to watch that movie again. this has been like over 6 months.
