Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick resigns in a plea deal

Finally. If for no other reason than to get the story off the air I'm thankful for this. He's done a horrible job of managing the city, and I'm surprised it took this long for Granholm to step in and try to set things straight. If she hadn't, he'd probably be there for months or years to come. I think he saw which way the wind was blowing, and that under the guidelines Granholm set up, that there was no way he'd be able to keep his job, which was the one major bargaining chip he had in getting a plea deal that had reduced or no jail time.

He'll be out in five months, at which time I'm sure his mom will get him a job. Being chairwoman of the congressional black caucus I'm sure comes with a certain amount of influence.

Hopefully the city can start to pick itself back up again now.
