As seen on TV.

I dunno. This looks slightly better than the teaser I saw back in July.

Slightly.

Still, it looks like they might as well just have used a brand new title, even if CGI-ized Gort -does- turn up near the end.

Like maybe Independence Day 2?

Does this have anything in common with the original film, other than an alien in a suit?

It seemed very matrix-y.

And I don't mean that because of Keanu Reeves. Stylistically it's near identical. Lots of bass and death and screaming doesn't always make a good movie.

Ok, this new version does not exactly respect the original plot.
Understatement of the year.

This may be the case, but could you really see a movie coming out in 2008 that is similar to the original plot? The original was pretty cheesy at times, and I could almost believe that he could walk around among humans unrecognized for awhile. But for a new movie, I don't think I could believe that.

They simply cannot make a remake that's similar to the original. It would bomb, hands down.

Now, I'm not defending the new one. I'm undecided (as I will be until I see it). But I'm glad they're not copying the original directly.

Yay! A movie made directly for Keanu Reaves! [Smile]

In the original film, Klaatu came to Earth because the intergalactic community feared a species on it's way to space exploration capability that hadn't learned to play nice.

In the new film, Keanu Reeves claims that the film is basically a pro-Green piece, and that Klaatu is the ultimate environmental crusader. He wants to save Mother Earth.

Guess which plot sounds cheesier to me. [Big Grin]

Then why use the same name?

Must have been easy to pick him.

"OK, so we need an actor that can portray an alien, be devoid of all emotion and personality, and speak in a monotone voice... Hey, I know!"

This has the look of a "stylish" TV show. I thought it was one until I saw keanu.

I find him to be one of the least talented actors in his tax bracket. He isn't bad– I mean, he isn't groan inducing like some actors can be. But for a major hollywood name, he has an incredibly limited range, plays essentially identical parts in every film he is in, and that's exactly what he should be doing. He certainly has made few mistakes in his career for a man with so little appeal as an actor.

I don't know if he makes the kind of money that someone like Brad Pitt or Matt Damon does, but I doubt there are many critics who would class Reeves in anywhere near their category, either in terms of Resume, or potential.

Keanu isn't an actor. He isn't even a person. He's an object to which things happen.

Think about every movie he's been in...essentially, he functions as an object. Things are done to him. Things happen around him. But he might as well be an office chair.
