You bet they did. I caught McCain last night and was really impressed at how funny he was. I thought Obama would certainly have a hard time following him, but he was really funny, too.

I've never heard McCain sound better. Pity he couldn't sound like this throughout his campaign. Off to listen to Obama!

My favorite was McCain's line that "Obama's got a special name for me, too: George Bush." In Obama's speech, I thought the (seeminly) ad libbed line about "that was a tough primary, eh John" (after the crack about Guiliani) was pretty funny.
I think if we had more events like this, and fewer debates, the state of politics in the U.S. (and the State of the Union in general) would be much improved.

I only saw the clips on the news here (New Zealand), but it's refreshing to see these things break through the electioneering posturing. We could do with something similar here, as our own general election campaign (voting is 3 days after the US election)is getting more and more acrimonious and personal, especially from the incumbent. Gets old quickly.

I rather liked the part where Obama said he was paling around with a bunch of low-lifes -- the U.S. Senate. Sitting down at the same dinner table without preconditions was pretty good too. And claiming to be Superman was a riot.
McCain's delivery of the wealthy couple hiring Joe the Plumber line was priceless. I liked the conspiratorial look on his face. Joe the Six Term Senator was also terrific. So was the "Mission Accomplished" banner. Additionally, I thought McCain was incredibly gracious when praising Obama.
Too bad politics isn't like this all the time.

Obama looked way more comfortable in his reaction shots to McCain's jokes than McCain did at first, but I was happy to see he loosened up and really laughed after awhile. Clinton's reaction shots were great, too.

That was hilarious. Considering the rancor of the election, and considering that a lot of those jokes on both sides were about contentious issues, they both managed to make fun of a lot of stuff going on around them without making really any of it mean spirited. Kudos to both of them. I thought Obama was a good sport through McCain's jokes, some of which COULD have been a hair on the line, but he finished it with a warm series of compliments towards Obama that I think smoothed out any possible slight that might have been taken from the jokes. Great address Senator McCain, well done. And I loved the Clinton jokes.
