Last night I stayed up late to watch Gurren Lagann. It's my one indulgence when they have me working overtime at the plant...the one show I'll risk being drowsy the next day in order to see.

Remember Gurren Lagann? You might not, for all the promotion you've given it. I know anime fans don't seem to be your current target viewership, but we greatly appreciate -any- channel showing new, high quality anime in this day and age.

Gurren Lagann is a quality show. A brilliantly funny parody of shonen fantasy action series, it also manages to be one of the best, most involving shonen fantasy action series that I've ever seen.

It's (intentionally) simultaneously the dumbest and the smartest show currently on your network.

Last night had the penultimate episode before the series finale. A gorgeously animated, tightly plotted fight scene occurred in which several series regulars gave their lives for a noble purpose. I actually got misty-eyed!

Well, I started to. Because at the very climax of the episode, when Studio Gainax is putting the audience right through the emotional wringer...you obscured the ENTIRE SCREEN with an image of a WOMAN WRESTLING A SNAKE to promote your SUCKFUL NEW REALITY SERIES.

I ground my teeth until it vanished. Then, once I got back into the show...a THIRD of the screen was taken up by the $%&*() "Ghost Hunters", waving their darn flashlight for WELL OVER TWO MINUTES.

Seriously, guys. Do you just not care? This is almost as bad as when Cartoon Network kept drowning out the dialogue of the Justice League series finale with extremely loud, obnoxious CGI promos for "Mega XLSomethingortheother".

I really love Gurren Lagann. I can't wait to see the conclusion. But can you promote your reality series in a less...intrusive way?

Thanks.

Agreed. Reality shows can die.

I don't want them to die, I just want their promos to stick to the sliver at the bottom of the screen. [Smile]

I agree. Cartoon Network completely pushed the last five minutes of the Naruto Movie 2 into 1/4 of the screen and showed a commercial for the Secret Saturdays with sound in the other 3/4.

I know that Naruto is not as cool as Gurren Lagann, but I feel your pain!

I was just going to mention the Naruto movie. Stupid Cartoon Network. They're supposed to be about cartoons, you'd think they would respect them a little bit.

It's just awful when they make sound. What morons are approving these stupid ideas?

Posted by Femellanovis (Member # 11642) on :

I meant they played the commercial's audio track over the dialogue of the movie [Razz] Not that sound in general was a bad idea, I support sound in most cases.

Yeah, exactly.
FX will do that a lot. It's always stupid stuff like air swipe noises. You know... wooosh!

Ah, I see exactly what you mean. Down with "woooosh"!

Don't punish me for watching a program on your dang channel, is what I say. Especially with anime. You can't just rent that stuff a lot of the times, you have to buy it. I'll never know how that movie ended now.

They've actually got two coming up, one of which I'll probably watch for a bit (the Chase one).

But I do entirely agree that Skiffy's got a problem with using screen space. [Smile]

The problem really lies with DVRs and bit torrent sites. People are skipping the commercials, and sci-fi feels like this is the only way.

That doesn't make it any less lame.

Agreed. So was the time I was watching Smallville, and Chloe and Jimmy were sitting in a Toyota listening to a Toyota commercial. It is going to get worse.

Though I do love watching Chuck and seeing an enormous Wii right behind his head or hear Morgan bribing the local bully with DSes. They work in an electronics store, so it's just cute. To me.
