I have a feeling there are two types of people here on Hatrack. Those of us who will listen to our local morning zoo (that's "morning radio talk show" for the uninformed), and those of us who hear it and immediately snap the radio off in disgust.

I'm one of the former.

But even if you normally hate morning zoos, I encourage everyone to take a listen to some actual scientific discussion on the Preston and Steve show.

The only reason I bring this up is because I'm responsible for Phil Plait, the blogger and astronomer who calls in, being on the show. I'm reading his newest book and emailed the show, suggesting they get him to call in. Shockingly, 24 hours later they had him on.

Do I have powers, or what? [Evil]

I'm an Adam Carolla Show fan myself. Followed him from loveline, and I still podcast most every day here in Prague. Loves it. Needs it. Must haves it.

I don't want to hear reprobates yabbering. I want to hear music. Seems like almost every station in the bay area becomes a talk radio station for my morning drive.

Well, it's a long way to Anchorage But that's where I'll go with you And we'll travel so far, dear To escape that morning zoo ...

Does NPR count as a "morning zoo"?

NPR is a "morning cup of tea" with friends.

Something we agree on. [Smile]

I haven't listened to radio since I drove my car in to a tree four years ago.

Frankly, I don't miss it.

I've never really gotten the point of listening to radio for music. Why force yourself to endure endless commercials for those occasional moments when the station is actually playing songs when you could just listen to a CD instead? The CD is far superior quality and you get to choose the playlist, too.

Or better yet, in this modern age of gee-whiz gadgetry, just plug an iPod into the dashboard and get the best of both worlds.

Oh, right - the topic. Phil Plait is a cool guy. I like his blog.

I pretty much only listen to NPR and PRI programs on the radio. Oh, and BBC's The World. I used to listen to the CBC's As it Happens, and I loved it, but the NPR stations around me don't carry it.

Who listens to the commercials? That's why there are six FM presets (12, actually, but the second tier doesn't get used nearly as often). I like NOT knowing exactly what song is next, and hearing old favorites I haven't thought of in years and new songs/groups I've never heard before.

I like to be surprised.

Yeah, Rivka and I agree again. I listen to the radio so I can be introduced to new music.

I have 2000 songs in my mp3 collection and I've heard them all to death. I need the radio to point me to which CDs I should buy and rip next.

Orincoro: The fact that 104.9 doesn't yabber in the morning is what makes them my default radio station. But I have 8 pre-sets that take me from KFOG and KOIT to "Movin'" and Live 105. But all of them, save 104.9 yabber in the morning.
