...got a 97% on a Quantum Physics take home exam. [Eek!]

Before any curve... I'm stunned. In utter and complete disbelief.

I can't believe it. I've struggled with this class like no other. I've had an impossible time wrapping my head around the concepts discussed and the abstract math used. And the fact that the Professor teaching it is one of the hardest/worst (depending on who you ask) in the department has made it no easier.

I got a 54% on the last test before the curve. And that was including a fair amount of generosity on the professor's part. He said this test was harder than the last one.

I spent a full week and a half struggling and wrestling with it. By the time I turned it I felt pretty good about it, I'd answered all the problems and was pretty confident in my answers. But I was also sure that I'd made false assumptions or stupid mistakes through out. I expected maybe an 85% or something before the curve, and that was being optimistic. Never in my wildest dreams did I think a 97%! I've never done that well on a physics test in my entire college or high school career, let alone on Quantum Mechanics!

Please excuse me while I go stick my head in a bucket of water, pinch myself and then if I don't wake up to discover it was just a dream, spend the rest of the night celebrating.

The quantum mechanics tests I took were among the hardest I've ever taken. They were in class, so probably a lot easier then what you just wrestled with. So I think I understand how you feel.

I'm dealing with a laser optics take home exam today and tomorrow. I cruised through the first 40% of it, we'll see how the rest goes. I got a 65% on the midterm, but since then my homeworks have been 90's, so I'm optimistic that I can pull something similar to what you did with the score increase. An 80% would make my month.

This is true. Perhaps you didn't "[do]that well on a physics test", its just that the rest of the class did really bad [Wink]

This was before the curve [Big Grin]

He curves it all at the end, he doesn't curve the individual tests.

Though it's possible he went easier on me than the others because he graded mine last or something.

I had a programming class in college where the grades were so all over the place the professor had to come up with a new equation after each test to describe the curve. It wasn't a simple equation either.

In high school I struggled with 12th grade honors physics, and thought I didn't have a mind for it. I was probably the only person to study in any concerted way for the final exam (which was everyone's final high school exam, btw) because I got the top score in the class, and it was notated as such on my final grade sheet that was sent to my parents. Funny how life can surprise you.
