I'm trying to find this very famous/popular/classic song. I've heard it several times on the radio, but they've never actually announced the title. It sounds kinda disco, but more groove or R&B. Moderate tempo, around 102-104.
It has one of those one-note "wynamp wynamp" quitar riffs throughout the song, and after the melody, it just goes back to this "wynamp" + bass.
The main melody is played by 2+ saxophones, and is backed up by trumpet/trombone section for key hits.
The melody is all in one octave span except for this first F note, which is one octave lower: F, C, G, F, Eb, D, C, HighBb, F, Ab, F, Eb, F, Ab, F, Eb, F
-- are for longer holds. No spaces are tuplets Commas are brief rests.
Melody is patterned as follows: FCGF, E, DC, HighBb, FAb--, F, EbF, Ab--, F, EbF.
Enough info? I know it's a big name, I just don't know the name or who did it.

A lot of radio stations have play logs available on their websites. If you know roughly when it was broadcast, try looking at their site to narrow it down. My station also makes clips available as previews for MP3 purchases.

Well, I tried putting that into Finale and playing it, but I didn't get anything really familiar. It sounded a little like Phil Collin's "That's All", but not really. And that's not a sax thing. Is the song an instrumental, or are there words?
Also, if you have access to a virtual keyboard, can you save a MIDI and upload it for us to hear? To be honest, I didn't entirely get the pseudo-notation you used.

Thanks Sean! That's it! I was trying to get Fruity Loops to sequence that timing, but it just can't do anything other than techno.

If I were looking for that song, I'd have described it this way:
It's got '70s bass and consists basically of a repeated sax line:
Deedle de dee, dih de dee, deedle de deeeeh de dadum, deeeeh de dadum.

Glad to help, earendil. I have Finale too, but I didn't use it. I tried that flash piano, but you can only click the notes so fast on it, so I played it on a real piano. The melody had to ruminate in my brain for a couple hours before it clicked, and I thought "Oh! That song!" But like you, I didn't know the title or the artist. I did a google search for "instrumentals 70's", and the 4th or 5th result was a CD for sale at CD Universe that had audio samples, and I just clicked down the audio samples until I found it on track 11.
