So, some of you may remember that last summer I thought that I would be in France for a good chunk of the summer, singing in an Offenbach opera in Saint-Yrieix, in the southwest. Unfortunately, due to medical problems, it didn't work out.

I am, however, pleased to inform all of you that I just got an acceptance e-mail telling me I was offered the part of Loena in La Belle Hélène, to which they have added the doll aria from Les Contes d'Hoffmann!! They also offered me 250 euros in scholarship money. I am so excited, and I really think I'm going to get to do it this year!!

*does dance*

So, FranceCon, anyone? [Smile]

Would you like to come for a weekend in Prague? Hostels are very cheap, and I can give a guided city tour... an incompetent one, but still probably better than you'll find elsewhere.

I also plan on visiting family in Paris over the summer- don't know for how long, but I may be around. This would make me "real" as well, since I believe you need two hatrackers to confirm reality... or is it two "real" hatrackers?

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

No, I think you're safe with any two hatrackers. [Smile] And I would love to make you real!

I'd love to go to Prague, but I don't know if that's actually an option for me. We'll have to see.

Well, you'd be more than a good excuse for me to make a trip somewhere I haven't been, maybe Bruges or Berlin? Where in France will you be? I've been to Paris so many times, it's honestly more of a headache than a good time most often- not that I won't still go there.

You're a singer aren't you? We can be music geeks and go to a concert! Yay!

I'll be in Saint-Yrieix, near Limoges, in the southwest. I don't know exactly where it is, beyond that. And yes, I am a singer, and I would love that! Or you can come see my opera! [Smile]

No, they have to be real too -- realness is a contagion spread solely via face-to-face contact. However, it is retroactive. So if you meet two unreal Hatrackers, and they later become real, so do you.

Rivka and ketchupqueen seem to be far and away the most efficient means of becoming real. Just a tip. [Wink]

Posted by Strider (Member # 1807) on :

What if most of the Hatrackers who know you're real leave Hatrack? Can you lose your "real" status?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Nope.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Not as long as there's still a chain of realness to active posters. For instance, I know you've met Kama and Frisco, and I've met both of them, and so has rivka. So even though Frisco isn't active any more, you'd still be real if no one else you'd met was still active.

That's my interpretation, anyway.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

By definition, wouldn't there be a chain (although it could be quite long) to active posters? Assuming we still had at least a few real ones left?

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Assuming that the real Hatracker you met is within six degrees of Kevin Bacon, and you are too, you should be fine.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Darn!

Ok, who on Hatrack has a KB index of 5 or lower?

I miss Frisco.

Raia, from what I remember that place you'll be is kinda hard to get to, but I'll see if I can manage a more available place (like, you know, Luxembourg [Razz] ). I could definitely do Brussels, and possibly a number of other places in Europe (although I am on a tight holiday schedule this year due to my Canada plans).I'd love to meet you.

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

I'd love to meet you too, Kama! And I'm glad that you actually addressed the real topic of this thread. [Razz] (Just kidding rivka.)

I'll see how flexible my schedule will be as far as getting out of this town, and can plan accordingly. Even if I have to meet you all somewhere else in France. This is going to be fun!

When you do find exactly where you are (my searches revealed too many locations with that name) please post in here. I'd love to meet you, but I probably won't be able to get away for more than a weekend, so if the meeting place is 7-8 hours away from me it might be a problem. [Smile]

On second thought, I might take some vacation days in August, so if we manage to decide on a date I might be able to squeeze in more than a weekend. [Smile]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Ok, will do! Yay!

Posted by Eduardo_Sauron (Member # 5827) on :

I'll be a visiting professor at the "Universidade Nova de Lisboa" (something like "New Lisbon University") in Portugal from August to October. Maybe, if you decide on a date, I could get a couple days to meet you all.

Would you accept a poor third-world denizen in your midst?

With the utmost pleasure. [Smile]

You know that if I were going to be even remotely near France this summer, I would be more than happy to meet up. [Smile]

Couldn't you come to London? I don't know if I'm going to be able to travel over the summer... and London rocks!

Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :

Hmm, I think Romanians don't need visas to visit England anymore. London might be feasible, and it certainly would be interesting for me. [Smile]

Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :

yes, Corwin, you're in the EU now, *pat pat* [Razz]

Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :

True. It's just that I didn't need a visa to visit France, Spain, Italy etc. long before we were in the European Union, so I never cared about this stuff before.

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

I don't know if I'll be able to make it to London. Though I would love that, because I adore London. We shall see!

Posted by Eduardo_Sauron (Member # 5827) on :

I'd like to know Londow. During my tow months in Portugal, I'll probably visit the city someday.

So, just out of curiosity, who were the original 'real' Hatrackers, and how did they get their 'real' status?

I'm old (old enough to have had periods of dormancy), and still haven't been confirmed as 'real'. Ought to fix that some day.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

There was an original meet-up. I believe it was the very first SoCal Shinda, but it was before my time. So I have only heard the legends. All realness traces back to that first group.

I do.

ETA: Certainly 3, probably 2. If 2 means that I know someone who knows him. Unless that's 1.

No good. Wikipedia says merely knowing him is insufficient.

But let's assume PSI had a more liberal definition in mind. That would give you a KB index of 2, and me a KB index of 3. Win! [Big Grin]

Well, anyway, not to provide a distraction, but it's official now! I sent my acceptance letter yesterday, and now I need to buy a score! I am OFFICIALLY going to France! No backing out! [Smile]

I still think we need to have Raiacon IN. Seriously sweetie, I haven't seen you in two years.

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

FOR REAL. We need to make that happen. I'm sorry, I'm just never around very long! :/

Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :

Well, I'm about to fix the date of my summer vacation. I can do it any time in July and August, though I'd prefer August. Raia, do you have a time-frame for when you'll be in France? I need to do this in the next few days, no precise date but the sooner the better. I'll send you a mail to the address in your profile in case you don't see this.

If you make it to England, I will definitely try to come see you. Unfortunately, France is just out of my league right now.

Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :

For those who are interested, she said she's in France from July 6th to August 19th. I plan on taking a 3 weeks vacation from August 3rd to 21st, but I'll wait a couple of days to see if others have different preferences.

Thanks, Corwin, for announcing that! [Smile]

I really hope we can work something out. I'm excited that you're actually planning your holiday during the time I'll be in France... you're sweet! Looks like RaiaCon is really going to happen this time!

And hey, if it's just you and me, that's great too... maybe we can go dancing or something. [Big Grin]
