I'm curious to know how many of you out there have seen or own Frank Herbert's Dune mini-series done by the Sci-fi channel? Personally I thought they did a great job of staying true to the story while creating a visually appealing world that captivated me. I know that there are those out there who really want an Ender's Game movie, and there are also those out there who do not. To those out there who do not, do you think that a 6 hour Mini-series could tell the story right? I have written OSC in hopes that he will not give up, and in hopes that he'll get in touch with HBO to do this. If my thoughts here are absurd for whatever reason, please let me know. Is budget really that relavent though? How many high budget films flop every year? And how many low budget films excell? And yet while I do agree with you slightly, I find my answer to your question in choosing the channel in which to make the mini-series. ABC-flop; FOX-cancelled halfway through; Sci-fi-geeky employees wanting to make it happen right; HBO-high budget

I could see it working. If it gets the support and quality team they had for shows like Carnival, LOST, Firefly, BSG, etc. it could be fantastic.
Of course, with the wrong people or with budget problems, it could be a real stinker - but the same can be said for movies.

Actually in this modern age a miniseries is recognized enough to afford it sufficient budget to create works that are far more in depth creations than movies.

Yes, definitely. Especially if he can get the special effects teams that did Firefly and BSG and maybe some of the writers and directors from both. Though I'm not sure how'd feel about, say Joss Whedon or Ron D. Moore being involved in it. Part of me says YES but the rest of me thinks we'd need someone new.

I do think a miniseries would work. Three parts: 1. early childhood and Battle School recruit 2. Battle school toon leader, commander and fantasy game 3. Phobos, Mazer, final battle, big reveal

I thought the Sci-Fi channel's Children of Dune series was really good, and not just because it's where a lot of people first saw James Mcavoy.
HBO has done a lot of fantastic miniseries, and Sci-Fi has done some interesting ones as well, though with a smaller budget, and far less notable actors, but still pretty good.

The last mini-series I watched was Tin Man. I thought it was ugly and they spent $20M on it.
The length of a mini-series would work for it though.
