Okay, Plan Alpha Sierra 3, Hatrack is now officially mobilized to name Node 3 "Colbert", voting ends March 20th.

Go! Go! Go!

EDIT: As of my Vote Colbert is #1 of the Name Your Own section, We Must Not Let Scientologist Win. We will NOT Praise Xenu.

What are you talking about?! "Serenity" is winning with 80%. The "suggestions" seem to have less than 1% all together.

Blayne, it's not the scientologists pulling for Xenu, 4chan is the main support.

Yeah, Blayne, I gotta say I would much prefer "Serenity" to "Colbert". And it does seem like a much more Hatrackian name.

I'd rather it be named "TARDIS"

Xenu is a perfectly respectable name. I've seen any number of particle physics articles containing the string B->Xenu or D->Xenu. In fact I've even reviewed a couple and recommended them for publication.

Serenity would be an entirely awesome name, on many levels. Not least the spec-fic geek level.

Normally I support Stephen's never ending egotistical quest to have his name stamped on everything under the sun, but even if he won, I don't think he'd be picked. His name doesn't even fit the naming criteria.

Those are all pretty terrible names.

Serenity is at 79%!

actually the suggest your own name votes are counted separately from the presuggested names SO technically if enough people vote for colbert his name can still go through.

It doesn't go with NASA's naming conventions, which was explicitly stated as part of the contest:

quote:
The name should reflect the spirit of exploration and cooperation embodied by the space station, and follow in the tradition set by Node 1 - Unity - and Node 2 - Harmony.
So I'm guessing it won't get selected.

NASA ran a similar naming contest for the ISS. Peace won more votes than the total of next highest five combined. However Mir also means peace, and the flakes running NASA couldn't stand the idea of naming the new space station after the Soviet platform.
Hence InternationalSpaceStation, despite the name not even being in the running.

All evidence suggests that the WhiteStuff crowd has only gotten flakier since then.

You would think they would learn.

Wouldn't Serenity be even *more* appropriate then?

My gut tells me they're socialist at the very least.
