Strike while the iron's hot, I say. Here are my pitches for shows on the all-new, all-hip Syfy:
My Vampire Gay Best Friend- She's a black-belt, a detective, and the world's greatest maker of scented candles! He's an immortal, androgynous, attractive vampire. He hurts inside. Together, they fight crime! And go to The Cheesecake Factory to discuss men! I dare say, there's sassy banter!
Tweens. In. SPACE!- Ever see Saved By the Bell? Imagine that, only on a space station. Yeah.
They're Not Those Super-Heroes, We Swear- It's a team of people with...unusual abilities. But, they don't wear costumes! And while they fight inhumanly powerful villains, they don't wear costumes either! So it's totally -not- a thinly veiled X-Men rip-off, OKAY?!?
The Original Movies: The Series- Every week, a club of intrepid X-Treme SportZ fans (they love to MOVE, so they call themselves MOVIES, get it? So original!) investigate reports of bizarre, CGI-ish monsters, or occasionally overweight bears. Also, wrestling!
What do you think? Will I get a nibble?

I agree, but if they're trying to expand their market, I suppose they want to attract tweens too.
In that case, why aren't they just any other network? Why go after a "niche" and then decide you want to appeal to everyone?

And how about this: Any channel devoted to "Syfy" (or SciFi) should not also be broadcasting wrestling shows.

But in those she has to come back to earth and deal with things like gravity so she's not really in space at all. I think PT has hit on some really good ideas.

That was the joke. Heroes comes from NBC/Universal, the parent company of dear ol' Syfy. And it's always had (shall we say) marked similarities to the X-Men, right down to recent Days of Future Past-esque arc.

Ok, Puffy, Baby, love yas work, but here's what we gotta do. Just some changes, just some little things to bring in the right demographic.
The $$ baby. Its all about the ad $ Puffy baby.
First, your Vampire thing--its great. I mean its just great, but what if, I'm just suggestin here, but what if we give the gay vamp a real flamer of a buddy. Give him a real self-centered, flamboyant, ego-buddy so we can still make all the homo jokes we want, but still come off clean cause we show the sensitive strong gay Vamp hero.
The Tweens--I love it. I really love it, but ya see, them tweenies grow up so fast we lose the demographic quick, then they do a Britney on us and get all slutty and no one wants to watch the reruns. And we all know the real cash is in the residuals. So we are gonna animate the whole thing. I got Gilbert Godfrey to play the voice of the computer/nanny, and we get the whole Japanese big eye, sweet tween look goin that will always attract not only the tweens, but all the pedophiles, and again, that's where the real money is.
The Super Hero thing--again, just lovin it to pieces. Rethinking the no costume thing though. Don't want to miss the action figure and fast food tie ins. That's where the real money is.
Also, got to have one of them be real avenging knight scarey sort of dude. Play off the whole Batman sure money idea. Maybe calls himself something close to Batman, um Rat Man? Drat Man? Make-em-go-Splat-Man. We'll get someone to figure it out.
Finally, the Movies series? Cool name. Great, brilliant, creative new idea. You are hot babe. You are hot. I see four in the group--a big muscular man. Not too butch. Give him an Ascot or something to make him not too tough, but strong enough. His buddy would be the comedy. Long and lanky, yet with an odd quirk. He's thin, so we make him eat all the time. He can be the coward of the bunch too. We have two girls--one a classic looker. The other can be a brain--still a looker, but with glasses and not as obvious with the looks. Hide em a bit to prove she's the smart one. Oh, and throw in a bit of Lesbian vibe just to bring in the curious if you know what I mean.
Hmm, they go scuba diving, skiing, surfing, and all the extreme stuff. I like it. But they need something else....Hmmmm.
A dog.
Yeah, they need a dog, a big dog. How about a Great Dane.
I bet we might even convince that Buffy actress to be part of this project.

Eh, Dreamworks already has The Clue Club movie in development. Though, I think we still have a chance at grabbing Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids.

FWIW, I agree -- there is a serious lack of reasonably-intelligent scifi geared toward young teenagers.

Seriously. Indoctrinating children in nerdiness is just like doing it with religion or political affiliation: you have to start them young.
I mean, there are plenty of sci-fi based cartoons but nothing live action. There needs to be a sci-fi series sort of like the original Star Wars series on TV. That's what turned on a whole generation of kids to the magic of geekiness. I think the vast majority of the sci-fi today is geared towards adults or older teens.
We need the sci-fi equivalent of a gateway drug.

When I was seven years old:
My second grade teacher read the class The Chronicles of Narnia.
My parents purchased copies of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, A Wrinkle in Time, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I, Robot, and the Gordon Dickson/Poul Anderson Hoka stories for Christmas. Along with the complete set of Narnia.
My grandmother subscribed my younger brother and I to several different super-hero comics. Detective Comics Starring Batman, Firestorm: The Nuclear Man, Legion of Super-Heroes, Green Lantern, The Avengers, Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man and The Uncanny X-Men.
