Remember this old cartoon/comic book, well I remember it better.

Look at me I know every cool movie before anyone else.

.... well we can't say exactly the same thing, but I check xkcd once a week, and I normally rely on you for new movies, and check for updates from you about once a week.

I've never pretended my movie posts weren't derived from outside sources. Most of my movie posts are links to an outside source.

I don't remember saying I remembered comics or cartoons "better" than others here. Though I'm sure someone can find a time (or times) that I did. Hopefully phrased in a less off-putting manner than that.

To me, it's a nod to the fact that I don't read comics for the artwork anyway. So, at least with XKCD, that pretense is stripped away.

Of course, I also enjoy the jokes...

Puffy, I've never actually seen someone do the jokes XKCD does, and I read a lot of geek comics. Most of the other geek comics I've read are written by Computer Gamer type geeks. So the jokes are mostly game based. XKCD is written by a former NASA physicist and therefore incorporates a fair bit more science, math and history of science than any other web comic I've seen. Also the writer is quite the prankster and has a fairly twisted sense of humor. Which all around lends itself to one of the best comics I've ever read.

There's a lot more to it than the list of things you think are repeated. Which makes me wonder just how much XKCD you've read. Go back and browse through the archives. There are some hysterical, and not a few poignant, comics in there.

I like it. A lot. It is fairly intelligent, and they approach a lot of things from an angle I haven't seen before.

I like a comic that doesn't talk DOWN to me. A lot.

I enjoy the humor of xkcd, but I really wish he'd team up with an illustrator. It could be Calvin & Hobbes quality if it had decent artwork.

I kind of like the quality of the artwork. At times, it's almost elegiac.

And I definitely can't think of another webcomic quite like it. Which ones do you think come close, Puffy?

Agreed.

Besides, my recollection is that he CAN draw quite well. He chooses to use simple line drawings.

Yeah, every now and then he does something that shows off his drawing, such as a dream sequence for the stick figures that isn't full of stick figures, iirc.

He can draw really well (and does, IMO, just simply).

The sense of humor just resonates sometimes. Not every comic is perfect, I don't get every joke, and I didn't always find them funny at first, but I read the archive in a sitting when there was around 300 comics, and after that you sort of "get" the state of mind.
