We move to a new location where they promise us Wifi so we can still work.
I am alone in the office and the connection gets buggy. I check with the landlords, but he wifi is fine. They say check out our computer.
I do so.
I check out every thing I think can be messing up the connection.
Finally I am getting a strong signal, but Firefox, IE and Remote Desktop all fail to get online.
I take the computer to a B&N that offers free wifi to see if its the system or the computer. The computer shows strong signal, but the computer can't find the addresses.
I try it at home where I have other computers on the net over our home networks wireless system, and still it says Strong Signal, but the internet isn't being found.
I know I disabled or turned something off when I was trying to fix the thing. Anybody got an idea?
Running Windows XP home version.

Rebooted--nothing.
Yahoo.com--nope. Address not found. (I'm only here because I am on another computer).

There is a switch on my laptop on then bottom that enables wi-fi on my computer. When I bumped it by accident I had the same problem you seem to have.
I could see networks but couldn't connect.
Check the case of the laptop and look for a switch/button, then turn it back on.

Also possible, some laptops have a fn key (function key) combination that can disable wifi.

There is an Icon at the bottom of the screen that shows me the Wireless network status. It shows 5 bars right now.
It says that I am connected to the network.
When I hit a browser, though, it sends me "page not found" errors.
A second portable (running Windows 98) is what I am using on line via the same wifi so I know its not the system, its the computer.

Are you certain your browser is not operating in "offline mode?" Sometimes it automatically goes back to online mode and sometimes it prompts you to online mode but sometimes it just doesn't do anything until you tell it to in the file drop box menu. Until it's in online mode all your webpages will give you that error.

Nope. Not in offline mode. I put it in offline mode, then took it off. It tells me when its in offline mode.
