Mayfly question without back story: Does anyone know how to compile the drm module on Fedora 10?

Back Story

I have a HP 2133 mini-PC.

I love it. I am also trying to improve my Linux skills. I feel I am moving from a novice to an intermediate skill level. That is to say I have a few linux servers I set up running, I use Ubuntu at home on one partition (mostly for the KDE educational suite for my kids), and I have been reading text books and magazines.

I still have gaping holes in my knowledge, even for seemingly simple things.

I have installed Fedora 10 on my HP 2133. Fedora 10 is my new favorite distro. I am moving away from Ubuntu. I have followed this guide and have everything working. Actually I only had to do the wireless updates. Cam, speakers, wired ethernet all worked.

My graphics for online video is still choppy. I have updated the 2D graphics with this instruction:
quote:
11a. To get faster 2d graphic Download the beta
2d driver from VIAs website: http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action.
Chose Ubuntu 8.10 and download the driver. Extract the driver (right click, extract here) and open a terminal and change to the folder in which you just unpacked.
Log in as root (su -) and do: cp via_drv.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers

Download this xorg.conf and store somewhere. Again, go there as root and do in a terminal: cp xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Restart X by logging off. Now, you have the correct resolution and may connect an external display/beamer if you wish.

**Note from lem: I don't think I had an xorg.conf file. I ran gedit from the terminal and just copied the xorg.conf from the instructions (hypelink didn't copy in this quote) into the notepad and saved it in /etc/X11/x,org.conf. It didn't seem to work and then it asked if I wanted to replace it. I said yes.

It made a difference, but it is still choppy. The next line says, "To get better perfomance, follow the steps to compile drm module. But X.org will start and do without it."

I don't see the compiling drm steps in the guide.

I don't know how to do that. I have Googled and read through the manual. It seems all the sites I have visited just assume you know how to compile the drm module.

Is there a simple command to do this? Is it different in different distros? I want to try it but am stuck.

Any help would be really appreciated.
