Tonight's episode of Lost is titled 'Dead is Dead' -

But next week's episode is titled 'Some Like it Hoth'

I'm trying to think of some other way they could be referring to something besides Star Wars..

It's funny in the sense that Hoth is like, frozen over or whatever, being the opposite of hot. But i'm interested to know if they really took it there.

Any thoughts?

Maybe someone's last name. They've referenced unknown characters in episode titles before, as with "Trisha Tanaka is Dead".

And the original Star Wars movie was released in 1977.

Hoth is also a Norse God. That seems more in line with the show's theme.

Is that just a random fact?

Hoth was in ESB, not ANH. 1980, no?

I wasn't saying the reference was to that specific movie, but that the series itself began in that year.

?
I'm not sure what the confusion is. "Hoth" is a planet in the Star Wars universe. The thread starter (you!, in fact) asked about Star Wars references. I was offering that as an explanation for how the connection might be made. Of course, I don't think it is going to be made, unless of course one of the Modern Day Losties spoils ESB for someone on the Island. That would be a pretty silly subplot, imo, and not very likely.

I could see someone finding the release year of the original movie and the Hoth reference in the episode title significant.

edit: I just realized, maybe not everyone remembers that the events happening now on Lost are taking place in 1977? Maybe my comment seems less random in that light?

However, I think my first suggestion, or the Norse God one, are more likely.

"events happening now on Lost are taking place in 1977"

Anybody remember which Douglas Adams book has the stuff about time travel and grammar? Not picking on you Leonide, but this is a perfect place to apply some of those rules.

Yeah. I'm bad with year-ij.

"events wiol all haven been taken place in 1977"

I didn't actually look up the "correct" tense/conjugation, but DA's grammar was something like that.

All I can say is that if Lost and Star Wars become fused I might go into pop culture overload and implode.

I'm not sure which book you're referencing by Douglas Adams. However, in the interest of accuracy, I was referring to the "now" of our current broadcasting season, not the "now" of the Lost world. [Smile] As in "The events that we, as viewers, are witnessing Now (as in, the past few episodes) are taking place in 1977."

Lost is already on pop culture overload, potential Star Wars references notwithstanding. [Smile]

I only saw the first season of Lost, so maybe there's been some time warp or something.

but 1977? I'm pretty damn sure the clothing style and technology I've seen (one episode a guy found a portable cd-player) is far ahead of 1977?

Yeah. It was pretty cool. [Smile] And they avoided any messiness by having modern-day characters discuss it, and not in front of anyone who wouldn't have grown up with the movies. Very geeked out right now, and happy to be wrong [Smile]
