So I know that there are a lot of Hatracker girls and boys out there that love anime. I am one of them. In addition, I know we already have a thread or two floating around about our favorite anime or anime recommends.
But what about the bad anime? The really, really bad ones that make you think that you'd have better spent your time blinding yourself than watching that again? (Ok, that might be a bit extreme.) The anime that is so chock full of cliche's and plot holes that you just can't make it through episode 3 (not even in hope that it gets better in the end)! When you watched this anime it made you want to go running through the streets, screaming to passersby to warn them about the dangers this anime poses the watchers' mental state.
Now, let's be fair here-if you list a bad anime, you have to list why you hated it.
I'll start. How about Samurai Deeper Kyo? Each episode of this anime starts with our hero going to a new town, everyone in the town turns into a monster which he then kills. There is no moving forward in the plot, even after what feels like 16 episodes. I bought the complete series and I still haven't watched it to the end. My DH was watching this with me, missed a couple of episodes, came back and said, 'Are they still fighting?'
What a bore!

I was shown once way back, three or four years ago, in which one of the super powers of one of the characters was that every time he climbed out of bed, the bed exploded.
And I think he could walk through buildings.
That's as much as I can remember. No name or anything.
Does it qualify as really bad? I mean, I don't know much else about it, besides the exploding beds and walking through buildings. But that was enough for me.

Puffy: The episodes of DBZ that are fluff were deliberate as the manga had not been written far enough ahead of the anime series. I actually like the way Akira Toriyama draws his characters. You should also note that the series was being drawn in the late 80's and 90's.
As for my own selections for really bad anime.
Samurai X was really stupid, they kept playing and replaying their one expensive action sequence.
Gilgamesh was completely boring, it just wouldn't stop being boring, I don't know how even the writer was being entertained by it all.
Ghost In The Shell 2: A very unworthy sequel to a groundbreaking anime.
Ranma 1/2: Even boobies couldn't make this extremely stupid show interesting.

Puffy Treat, yeah, the fluff/filler thing killed Dragon Ball Z for me. I don't how many episodes I went through with Goku fighting Freeza with NO RESOLUTION. And then summer was over, school had started up again, and I couldn't be back home in time from school to see the episodes. Pretty frustrating. The animation was fine, though, and when they weren't monologuing and actually fought the action was pretty cool.

Candidate For Goddess was... unpleasant. Well, in retrospect.
12 22 minute episodes long, something like 25+ characters to keep track of, illogical plotlines, plot contradictions from the first episode onward, an unimaginably annoying protagonist, a distinct lack of logic, a heroine who inexplicably turns out to be a catgirl for no good reason, story logic is nonexistent, no ending, and a disturbing absence of logic.
Also, the plot made no sense, since it was lacking logic. Or something.

BlackBlade: I hope you are referring to the second GitS movie, because I'm seriously contemplating acquiring the SAC 2nd gig on DVD. I watched the first series and enjoyed it almost as much as the movie.
Otherwise I have been fortunate enough to have avoided the Really Bad Manga. This is mostly due to the fact that I haven't watched all that much. What I do watch is recommended to me by someone who watches almost everything that comes out within this genre.
When it comes to Dragonball Z, I must confess that I've never been a fan of the series. It was just to slow for me. But I have seen a fair amount ofthe episodes, because my brother was an avid fan. Tonight I going to gather my courage and go to the cinema to view the live action movie. Don't tell me, I know it's going to be bad. I just feel like checking out how bad it actually is.

Blackblade: Just making sure. I do agree with you on the English dubs. I've tried to watch Ghost in the Shell once with the English audio and it was pretty annoying. Since I have no problems with subtitles, I'll definitely choose the original version from now on.

Innocence wasn't quite as good as the original Ghost in the Shell.
Both gigs of Standalone Complex are quite good; I prefer the second overall due to its darker tone. The first one has a bit too much of the anime cuteness in it for me (hello, Tachikomas).
X and Ninja Scroll were both horrendous.

All I ever saw was people who while yes Chinese and Communist or at least members of their local Communist Action Committee acting just as smart or dumb depending on your view of things as the OTHER main characters! If anything they seemed smarter as its alledged they found a way to control the transformations.
A Singsongy hyper overly helpful Chinese tour guide i think is generally a standard way of portraying Chinese stereotypes.
I think I watch primarily for Shampoo, I'm amazed that they (tried) to give her a Chinese accent in the dub, (I dont watch the dub but i switch over to rewatch some dialogue to see the differences) though it sounds so obviously fake that while they get points for effort they get a massive penalty for raping my ears.
Oh and yeah, Shampoo is so deviously cunning I think I watch just for her, though I am starting to get a bit annoyed with the main characters, c'mon she's tried maybe 10 times by now to mind control Ranma? Cant they tell that if Ranma starts acting strangely and shes around, SOMETHINGS UP! Its like they take Idiot pills just so they can handle the idiot ball they're given out on those episodes.

I actually liked Akira Toriyama's art in Doctor Slump, oddly enough. I think he's far better suited to humor of the absurd and light-hearted whimsy than to action stuff.

Aw, Ranma 1/2 was my introduction to anime, and I still hold some amount of fondness for it. It can be really fun in small doses. A few years ago my husband and I were working through the whole series, but we eventually got tired of it because there were too many episodes with the dirty old grandpa.

The reviews I've read were for the first few episodes, yes. Though they have do have a basis for comparison, the original DBZ run. As far as judging goes, they were reviewers, doing a spring/summer 2009 anime preview. It's their job to give their opinion of how the new shows grab them. Posted by neo-dragon (Member # 7168) on :
I understand. I'm just saying that in this case, it's essentially a special edition of a series that had almost 300 episodes. They have a LOT of material to play with, and I don't think that there's anything in the first 2-3 episodes that calls for radical alterations. Those episode just set up the premise for the first story arc.

I was never able to get into Angel Sanctuary, even though everyone and their brother tells me it's amazing. I had a hard time following who was who, who was where, where was when and all sorts of other things. It just got too complicated too quickly for me.
