I have a news site that lists several different news feeds. It is amusing to see how Fox never manages to disappoint in its endeavor to bring upstanding news.

Today for example,

BBC:US Captain Rescued From Pirates
Rueters: US Navy Rescues Captain, Kills Somali Pirates
CNN: Captain Freed. Pirates Killed, US Navy Says...
MSNBC: US Captain Held by pirates rescued.

Fox: Navy Seals Kills Pirates.

It isn't the saving of the captain that's the news, its the execution of the pirates.

When I'm feeling the need for a laugh, I'll read the headlines at Fox.

Was that really Fox's headline? You sure it wasn't "Navy Seals Kill Pirates?"

If you were correct the first time, I think I'm more scared.

I was thinking that as well, and my only rationale was that perhaps they were using "Navy Seals" as a singular pronoun, which occurs more often in British English than in American.

Not that it matters because this is Fox News bashing thread but your title was shortened.
Navy seals kill pirates, rescue American hostage

Or they changed it, or had it shortened on the main link.

I have no idea if they did or didn't, but it's a possibility.

But even with the full title, it's still a pretty funny juxtaposition.

The main message of all the other headlines is 'rescue', whereas the main message of the Fox headline is 'we killed some guys...then rescue'.

(edited to add: CNN and Reuters included the killing of the pirates as well, but again, still funny, because their headlines treat it second, and Fox gives it primary position.)

You know, I don't actually see a different take on the same story as a bad thing.

I don't necessarily agree with everything on Fox News, but I don't agree with everything on any news source. Maybe the point wasn't to put the killing first but to, insted, write a different headline from the carbon copy stories in all the other sources.

I can't believe a news source is being mocked for noncomformity. If the point is conformity, we might as well just have the Associated Press on stream and shutter every other news outlet.

It's not non-conformity it's being mocked for, but sensationalism.

Because of the order of the words? The same words that were all in the carbon copy headlines of the other sources? When CNN posts about two or three sensationalistic headlines a day without comment?

I don't believe it. At all.

Foxnews changes their headlines around all day long (as do CNN and others) so if Darth reports that the original headline didn't include anything about the rescue, I'm inclined to believe it.

Did you pay attention to the rest of my post at all?

I don't believe it. At all.

Because of the implied primary importance of killing our enemies by placing the 'death of America's enemies' as the focus, as opposed to the rescue of the Captain.

If you find CNN's headlines sensational, then by all means comment on them. If they are, I'll agree and comment too. So will a lot of people here, I'm sure.

I do find them constantly sensationalistic. However, I am not interested in congratulating myself on my taste by tearing down others with discrimination.

I get why it is fun to point the fobiles of people/institutions you disagree with and forgive or hide the vices of those who identify with. I just find it very distasteful.

Snide much? Your tone has gotten increasingly hostile these days, Kat.

I am very serious - did you read the other three statements at all, or did you feel you only had a rejoinder to one of them?

Who is hiding anything?

Saying that "CNN does it too" is a complete red herring. The issue is whether or not a particular Fox News headline is 1) sensationalistic and 2) amusing when compared to others.

Whether or not other news organizations do similar things doesn't mean we can't point it out when Fox does it, or vice versa. It also isn't a particularly strong defense.

Fox is nothing compared to the local rag. RING ROAD HORROR SMASH is one I've seen more than once. YORK SEX BEAST SENTENCED has been another. HOSPITAL VOMIT BUG WARNING is one I actually took a photo of. They can be truly unbelievable at times.

EL, that's typical British rag, though. It's like a national institution to have tabloid headlines like that.

So you find what you're doing to be distasteful? Good to know...

But hey, call me on my fobile if you disagree.

I don't see why there has to be anything political about this. Seems to me it's a bit of sensationalism, but not a whole lot.

After all, the original headline is true, and it is something that is - quite frankly - pretty damn cool in the eyes of most people.

Fox News didn't have to do a whole lot to jazz up this story.

Agreed- Fox has done much worse, if you even consider this to be bad.
