Hey all [Wave]

found this article on the front page of our school newspaper today. Since there are no comments on it as of yet, I was curious to know what other people might think of it.

I showed the article to a few other girls in class today and got some pretty snide remarks on it, ranging from "she looks like she's twelve years old" to "I'm too smart to be involved in something like that," or something like that.

I think I'm sort of a fence-sitter when it comes to things like this. I'm not a jealous person who resents other girls just because they're prettier than me, and for the people participating in this it's their God-given right to do whatever they want. At the same time, I don't have a good feeling about it. Throughout my life I have been around people who make snide, mean remarks about girls/women just because they aren't pretty, and it has made me resent people like that. The idea of using these girls to attract future students makes me upset too.

Being good-looking is a wonderful thing, but I can definitely see why other people might get upset over this.

What do you think?

I think those people who would get upset need a life.

Nothing particularly remarkable... I can imagine that at first it could be hard to make clear that they are serious and not just trying to get a bunch of girls to model for them (which.. I suppose they are, but for business reasons)

I don't get it. My university has a modeling club, with the express purpose of hosting fashion shows and helping members get professional contracts. How is a bikini calendar controversial?

Free advertising for the model and the calendar! Woot!

I don't have a problem with this. Or that is, I can't think of a legitimate reason to prevent others from doing this.

Meh, not that controversial, it's just that it seems like one of those things that you know that some people are going to get upset about and possibly write a response to. Also when I read it it made me think of one of the older threads on here where some people criticized female modeling.

The noncommittal sales pitch is hilarious. It might happen at a resort which could mean a free vacation, so you know, send us your swimsuit photos! Only two of the four of us will review them!

*grin

Ha! Too true. Don't think I would've put much stock in that, even when I was twelve.

[That is, I'm not saying I'm "too smart to be involved in something like that" as a whole, as per the OP, just that this particular part of the pitch seems unambiguously leaky. [Smile] Of course, someone might be quite happy with the project as a whole nonetheless, and, as below, I see nothing new or remarkable there, either. There is a wide variety of things to be interested in and desire.]

As for the article/project, nothing new under the sun. Not the models, not the organizers, not the calendar, and so no more objectionable than any of the other gazillion things out there. It strikes me just as business as usual, and that's no reason to go out of anyone's way to condemn it, surely.

Every year the Butch Lesbian Feminist Society, or whatever it's called, tries to get our college modelling show stopped. The GIRL'S modelling show that is, they don't say anything about the GUY'S modelling show. Ah feminists.
