You know those really low to the ground table with the basically cushions for seats? Yah, I don't know what they're called either but I want a set and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it either (or really any body part). I've got a small apartment and right now, my desk chair and a camp chair to sit in. I think the above mentioned set-up would be ideal but without a name I'm not sure how to search for it, or where to go to look for this stuff. Any ideas?

I believe they are called a chabu-dai (maybe chabu-bia?).

At least that's why my Japanese friend was calling my coffee table turned dining table.

Edit: Hmm, maybe just a name isn't helpful. I believe that the most cost effective way to get such a table would be to find a used coffee table, and saw off the legs to get to an appropriate height. Obviously not every coffee table would work under this approach, but a fair number would I think.

Also, you could make one if you have access to some basic tools. As mentioned above, my coffee table is currently serving as a dining table, although it is a bit high (and the legs are not easily modified).

I believe you'll have luck looking for a Japanese tea table. Like this or this.

Thanks guys, that is helpful. [Smile] It's embarrassing, honestly, to have no furniture in my apartment. I don't mind when it's just me but I've been invited to people's houses here countless time and never returned the favor. The worst part is, I'd like to! I enjoy cooking and it's fun to have company at your place once and a while (even for a recluse like me [Cool] ) but with nothing to sit on or around...
