That's more or less how I feel. There's no one that I really want to [i]be[/]. But there are a number of people I see doing the right thing that I take cues from.

I see and admire qualities of various people without having one who I specifically want to emulate in most respects. But we're talking about role models, not identity models. Right?

I used to know a lot of good religious men but I've come to the conclusion that they're wrong about some pretty significant things. Admirable in many ways, but I don't want to be a good religious man, so they model the role of community service and contemplation about what is good.

People at work usually hit about 2/3 of the right qualities. Somebody will be a hard worker and smart but insufferably egotistical, or will be friendly and humble but have poor judgment, etc.

Online (like here, similar sites) there are tons of people I admire. (You know who you are. Yes, you. I'm talking to YOU.)

A good example for me, at least, would be Atticus Finch, from To Kill A Mockingbird. Not that I do a good job or anything, but he's still, in some primitive place in my psyche, an incredibly strong impression.

In fiction, Atticus Finch is definitely one of my role models. (Though I haven't had internal lectures start with "Now, Scout..." Now I feel like I've been missing out. ) In the real world,I look up to Roméo Dallaire, my father in many ways, and my grandfather.
