I was going to post this in the Two-State Solution thread, but it's pretty crazy over there. I don't see the two-state solution working, at least not until the current generations aren't in power anymore and emotions have cooled off. Who knows how long that will take?

I'm not interested in who's to blame. History is over, what we got is what we have to work with. So what do we have?

Well, we've got two sets of people each wanting to stay where they are, where they once were, and where they covet.

We've got a couple of religions that claims rights to the area. And a country based on one of those religions.

We've got some opponents of that religion who want that country eliminated.

I'm sure there are a lot of other details, but I'll go with these for now.

Let's start with bringing about the end of Israel. Simple. Change the name, dissolve the parliament, hold a constitutional convention to frame a new government. Not necessarily in that order. Now Israel doesn't exist anymore.

This couldn't happen until there is agreement among both sides that everybody who lives there before the change is entitled to live there after the change, so "Israel" (the people) would still get to live in whatever the new country is called.

Most governments have a pretty similar framework, so in that regard there probably wouldn't really be much difference. I'm seeing a secular government, to avoid those entanglements, and a division of rights and responsibilities like states vs. federal rights (whatever you want to call it). That's the basics. The rest is what we could call "the peace process."

Now, of course, I expect this idea to get torn apart, but I thought I'd throw it out there. Ok guys, have fun.

Its a very bad idea. A single state solution could work but has to be a way where the Israeli's and Palistinians are co-citizens but framed in a way to ensure that neither side can suddenly do things to destabilize the country.

Israel would never allow it. The Jewish people would be voted out within the century.

The real problem with any solution is that "it will never happen."

And the real problem with Israel is that there is little constructive discussion, and much discussion about what won't work.

So, perhaps if my idea won't work, you can suggest an idea that will.

The Single State solution is preferred, if its your single state.

The single state solution will only come about if forced upon the people by a violent, dictatorial, repressive regime....with the help of some mind-controlled ninja's, a phalanx of zombies, and fifteen killer fem-bots controlled by the Pirate Lords of Peru.

And there is only one person who can lead all of the above to a valid, peaceful, evil world one state....

but I'm busy that weekend.

How do you see this coming about?

Actually, the parlaiment did disolve last year (again) so that's 1 down, 2 to go.

I'm not sure "never" is the right word. They might have to get conquered first before they'd agree to it. If the choice was between being controlled by a foreign muslim regime and becoming a more secular democracy, I suspect they'd choose the latter though.

Hence the need for the zombies, ninja, and killer fembots.

Time, I guess. I can't see the current situation lasting forever. Social momentum comes in strange waves.

The funny thing is that Katharina and I seem to agree on this subject. The real problem is the theocracy and discrimination.
