I don't watch this type of TV much, and I'm really not familiar with this show, but I had it on in the background tonight while I was cleaning the kitchen.

All I can say is, who is that shrieking judge? Has she always been on? Has she always done that?

Talk about antisocial behavior. *shudder*

I do love that show, but poor Nigel has to be half deaf by now sitting next to that woman. He was wearing ear muffs and she took them off and yelled in his ear again...

She's very enthusiastic, but still, that guy's poor innocent ears.

She does know her stuff though.

Her name is Mary Murphy. She's always been on the show and always done the screaming thing. Usually she saves her screaming for really good dance routines, but, imho, last night's show was one of the best shows (especially for the first one in the season of the top 20) that the program has had. The dancers seem to be especially good this year.

I catch the show off and on, but saw most of it last night. I have to say this year's dancers seem uniformly good. There was not a pair I saw that were not at least good and many were exceptional. I have to say that Melissa and Ade were my favorites, followed by the Broadway guy ( I forget his name, but his two brothers were in the show). However, are he and his partner short. When Kat came up next to them for the comments section of the show, she was at least 6" taller.

I wish I'd actually seen more of the dancing. But I did enjoy what I saw, there were some talented people. I'm glad to know Mary Murphy doesn't always do that. I couldn't watch the show if she did.

They are an especially good group this year. The kid whose name you can't think of is Evan and his partner is Randi. He is definitely my favorite, because he is so unique.

The only routine I really didn't like was the Broadway routine that was up second - the "Silent Movie" one - I think the dancers just didn't sell it. Maybe there was no real chemistry between them? I couldn't tell what was off about the routine, but something was.

This is going to be a tough year for the judges to eliminate people - they all look like they belong in the finals.

Mary's scream and "Hot Tamale Train" are annoying but its her signature. Its a memorable show gimmick, love it or a hate it.

But when she lays into someone with the criticism...its a moment not to be missed. She knows her stuff and if she doesn't love someone, she'll let them know. The knowledge of the judges is one of the reasons I like SYTYCD over so many other reality talent shows.

My favorite from the other night was Evan and Randi. I am also keeping my eye on Brandon and Phillip.

Its a good group this year but there's still alot of room for growth. My dad blamed the negative reception of the Broadway dance on a bad choreographer, but I think last year's bunch proved that Broadway can be done well. And last night's Bollywood was good but NOWHERE near as amazing as Josh and Katee's last year.

Hopefully, as people are eliminated the couples will get mixed up and maybe we'll find a few great pairs (Josh and Katee, and Mark and Chelsea were my favorites last year.)

I loved them. Especially Josh and Katee. Who should have BABIES.

Ooh, Chelsea and Mark! That hip-hop routine they did was by far my favorite dance of the season. [Smile] I think my favorite overall, though, is still Pasha. I have no basis for this, but he sure was a cutie.

Unfortunately, this season's performances seem to be airing at the same time as "Wipeout," so I've not seen much of the show. Ah, well. I'll have to live with it somehow. *faints tragically*

I love this show. I only caught the initial try outs, but the older of the two sisters (Caitlin, I just looked up) who danced to Winter Song was amazing.

If you haven't seen it, you really should:

Syn, my thoughts EXACTLY!

Fave dances from last year are anything by Katee and Josh. Mark and Chelsie's hip-hop. The Sonja dance number with Mark and Courtney. And there's a good doorway number but I can't find it online. I know it was Twitch and someone else.

Glad Tony went home. He didn't belong in the Top 20. They should have given his spot to Evan's brother. There aren't any tappers this year.

I agree with Carrie that Chelsea and Mark's hip hop routine was one of the best of SYTYCD. Off the top of my head the others would be the Sweet Dreams jazz with Sabra and Neil, Donyelle and Benji's Too Much Booty.

My favorite from the first show (as seen through youtube before they get yanked by fox) was Ashley and Kupono's insanely bizarre jazz routine

It was Twitch and Katee. She hung on the door by her fingers. That was so funny. I loved that dance.
