This is pretty good. And the author has a good message at the end.

Illusion: good. Finding it necessary to use it as a springboard for Life Lesson(s): [Roll Eyes] .

So I prefer the original (scroll alllll the way down), which is minus some color artifacts from Wordpress and on a page with many other related optical illusions.

A large amount of Phil Plait's blog's content is devoted to covering skeptical topics.

So a lot of the point in him even bringing up the optical illusion was to point out the unreliability of human perception.

I wasn't comparing his blog post to other blog posts (of his or anyone's). I don't care why he brought it up. And Paul could easily have linked to the original, had the optical illusion been his primary interest.

Is it unusual that I can tell they are the same color? I think I would be fooled if I wasn't concentrating, but if you focus on the image and put it into the background, you can see that it is the same.

Sorry you don't find skepticism worth bringing up when discussing optical illusions, rivka. I do.

I kind of see that it's the same color (or at least very close colors) in the magnified image and in the broader part of the spiral. The closer I get to the center of the spiral though, the more I see a difference between the two colors.

Same here. Cool illusion.

I am utterly and completely unable to see that they're the same color, even in the magnified image.
