I just recently bought a lot of NES games and systems from a guy in town and decided to start collecting as many original titles as possible. I'm up to 100 titles. About half of that from my own collection and half from what I just bought. It seems like a fun collection to start because I still regularly play the system. Its the kind of thing that shows up at garage sales pretty regularly and a lot of people have them tucked away in their basements and are usually willing to sell for cheap. I haven't posted here for a while and I thought this was a fun thing to share. The older I grow the more I continue to embrace my inner geek.
Any one else still love the old stuff?

I like that stuff and still have a system packed away in the states. You should poke around amazon and ebay- people sell used NES and N64 titles in bulk- I'm particularly fond of N64 titles myself, and bought a cartload in college; some for a dollar or so per game off amazon.

I will never, ever again blow in an NES cartridge. I just won't do it.
It was fun to play an emulator version of Super Mario Bros on the PC, though. (for about 10 min)

Actually, for about 10 dollars and a little bit of time and effort you can refurbish the system to play like its brand new. People sell new 72 pin connectors (This is what is inside the big grey box) on line all over the place and you can clean the contacts on the games and they play like its 1985 again.
I'm actually refurbing a system right now for a friend. I've got about 15 duplicate games and am giving him the whole thing for his birthday next month.

Oh, man... I also have played games on an emulator, but its just not the same. There is just something really awesome about the big grey toaster looking box and square game pad.

We still have this old bootleg cartridge that my husband got in Taiwan called "42 in one." It has tons of classics, and quite a few head-scratchers, such as "Chack n' Pop," "Penguin Adventure," "Ramio Bros.," "Milk & Nuts," and "Millipecle." It's a little too big for the NES, so the poor console has been stretched over time for the cartridge to fit. Now when we put the old cartridges in, it just isn't the same. PSI Teleport: HA! When I lived in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur we purchased those 10^100000 combo cartridges all the time. Truth to tell though, when they got beyond 50 you knew alot of the games were really just the same games under a different name. A cartridge could have Mario Bros as game #5 but game #63 became "Plumber Adventure Time" and what not. They had those games for the genesis as well but you couldn't fit more than four onto one cartridge. Sadly games have now exceeded the storage capacity of even DVDs.
I love old games but I too belong to the emulator crowd, but occasionally I bust out my old Genesis and N64 games. Since most of the really cool 8 bit games can be purchased on the Wii I play most of them there.

I like buying the old games on my Wii. It is about $5 a game, but I find it worth it. The emulators I used in the past were never as good.

We just sold our NES and all the our games on EBay not that long ago.
But yes, it's hard giving up fun, old games. That's why we still have one Windows 95 and one Windows 98 old PC at home, that we hook up whenever we just want to play the "old stuff" computer games.
(Come to of it - I really should put VMWare on my home PC and just create a 95 and 98 virtual so I wouldn't have so many spare PCs around)

In college I picked up an old Intellivision at a garage sale, and started collecting cartriges for it and for my old Atari 2600, but both consoles and all of my cartriges were destroyed when my parents' house burned in 1998.
What I'd really like to get my hands on is a Vectrex. I've wanted one of those ever since it was a new product, actually.

I was a spoiled kid growing up and received my first NES right when it came out in 1985. I was four.
By the time the SNES came out, I boasted a collection of over 50 games. (My grandmother spoiled me rotten, as she only had 2 grandkids at the time)
Little known games you have to pick up if you have the chance:
(I will not list "staples" like Mario, Contra, or Ninja Gaiden. Everyone knows about those)
Kickle Cubicle: Probably the best puzzle game I have ever played. You are an eskimo kid trying to save the vegetable kingdom, which has been frozen. Really stupid storyline, awesome gameplay. Think Lolo, but better.
Monster Party: Kid gets transported into another world where he has to beat down monsters with his baseball bat.
Dinowarz: You are a little guy that rides around in big robot dinosaurs! To make things more awesome they shoot lasers out of their freaking eyes.
XEXYZ: A hybrid action/shooter game. The shooter aspect of the game is lackluster, but the action parts are some of the best on the NES.
Life Force: The best shooter on the NES. 'nuff said.
And my favorite NES game:
Blaster Master: A sidescroller where you drive around in a tank, going through levels and killing stuff. There are doors scattered around that you have to enter by getting out of your tank. It switches to an over the top view of your little dude as he shoots enemies and finishes levels.
There are a lot of other good games, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

to add to the fun of collecting games, I've decided to start selling the extra Nintendo's i get when I buy a lot of games and stuff. I recently bought 3 NES systems and 60 games from a guy in town. None of the systems worked and a bunch of the games had significant corrosion. I did some research and found out that you can replace the pin connector inside the box fairly easily and the games can also be cleaned properly. Got all three systems running like brand new. No tapping and blowing, no resets. It's pretty cool. The geek in me is having a blast. Same with the games. So far I've cleaned about 75 of my 100+ collection. Every single one plays like new.
Just the other day I listed my first ever e-bay auction. I've bought stuff there before but never tried to sell anything. It's kind of thrilling. But anyways, to all you ebay powersellers out there, wondered if you would look at my ad and tell me if you have any pointers for more successful selling. I mean, i think it's pretty straight forward, but like I said, haven't used ebay much over the years, so who knows. And I'm really not just trying to make a sales pitch to you guys, I'm just curious to hear from people who have been selling successfully for a while. I would like to make this a full time hobby and hopefully break even in my collection quest. But of course, if you feel compelled to bid when you're there, feel free... :-)
and to all you who actually have the old grey box still, I'd love to share how to do all the restoring with anyone interested in knowing how. It's pretty fun to do and I love talking NES lately.

I know it's too late, but here's some feedback on the listing anyway:
Pretty good! No mistakes; pretty good description. Well above average for a first listing, IMO.
Things that would make me slightly more likely to bid:
1) More photos, with closeups showing the condition of each included item.
2) More whitespace in the description. Short paragraphs, followed by a bullet list for included items.
3) Allow returns. Yeah, it sucks to deal with a buyer who wants to return an item, especially if you're not at fault, but 'no returns' can imply that you aren't going to stand behind your claims about the item. Allowing returns is pretty safe, since most people won't purchase an item unless they actually want to keep it. (Although to be fair I should disclose that it's possible, though unlikely, that a buyer will try to scam you by returning something other than what you sent them - the ole switcharoo. Some sellers use invisible ink marks or keep records of serial numbers to guard against this.)
But those are all minor issues. A more significant issue, but one you can't help, is your lack of a feedback rating and history of sales. Just keep selling and you'll build up the history/reputation that you need.

Thanks for the feedback. You say pretty much what I had thought myself. I realize the biggest problem is gonna be my low number. But that's one I can't really change until I've done more selling.
The idea of returns is interesting. Never considered it before but it does makes sense.
hopefully I have a few more sucessful sells in me. I've got one more package deal to sell and q top loader Nintendo already and I am talking to someone about buying theirs that they dug up from the basement.
I think right now I have 150.00 invested in the past month on items. So with the first sale i've made back a third of that. So I think I actually have a chance of being patient and waiting for the right deal and I could pretty much create my collection of games with out much cost to me. Fun Stuff!

My second Listing. I think its a lot better. Only problem is that it wouldn"t let me change the color of the text. Might have been the computer I was using. It was acting goofy. Gonna try to edit it later and add some color. Any thoughts on it? is it actually better?
