You know that old Sci-Fi theory that if you die in your sleep, you die in real life. Your heart just can't take the strain.

I proved it wrong.

Or I'm a zombie. (though I don't have a craving for Brains)

Last night in my dream I was eating alone at a restaurant when terrorists burst in and held the place at gun point. The main/only/leading terrorist asked, "Who here works for a Parks & Rec department?"

I stood and said, "I do." (Which I don't in real life).

So he shot me. Bang. Right in the forehead. Third eye was blood-shot I guess. I never did figure out why this bad guy thought the safety of his terrorist kidnapping plan was to remove the threat of those famed martial artists--Park & Rec personnel. I didn't think much of him for a long while.

I just fell backward and started waiting for what would happen next.

No Angels came to escort me to heaven. No Devils came either. There was no bright light. All I could remember was a profound disappointment, a wish that my next life be something comfortable, and a wish that what ever would happen next would happen already.

I do directed dreaming, where part of my conscious mind helps guide my dreams. I get some great story ideas this way.

I directed my mind to some action, which meant my return to life. One of the good bad guys saw I was alive and hid me from the main bad guy.

He hid me in the kitchen.

The main bad guy came in so the other guy ran off after telling me to--play dead.

I did.

The bad guy thought it was silly sentiment that the other guy was keeping the body around, so he decided to get rid of it, by cooking me.

I still played dead.

He started a big pot of water boiling, and pulled out some knives and cleaves to cut me up for soup.

I didn't know what to do.

Suddenly I did what he might expect a dead body to do, I fell on him. Then as I was big and he was small and trapped under me, I grabbed some knives and started stabbing him, a lot.

I thought that the angle of thrust might have me stabbing myself, especially as they went in the body nice and easy--too easy.

Yet when I stood up I was covered in blood, mine from my head wound and the bad guys.

Then the alarm went off.

However, I think this proves that I am ready to take on Freddy Krueger and Dreamscape and all those others that threaten to kill me in my sleep.

I survived.

Wow. Way to kick butt as a corpse.

I have died in my dreams several times. The most graphic time I was shot in the head and started pulling my brains out and looking at them. I remember thinking, "How is this possible?"

So I suppose for both of us the question remains, if we are able to remain animated even when something has happened to our bodies in our dreams that would render a physical being dead, are we really dead in the dream?

I die all the time in my dreams.

Once I was shot in the back of my head and the last thing I remember before it all went black was seeing the inside of my face as it pulled away from my skull.

I've died a few times. The best was a dream that was pretty long and complex, but the basic story arc was that me and a friend were tracking down a demon who was prophesized to return and destroy a particular building. At the very last moment in the dream, a whole bunch of clues came together, and my friend and I realized at the same moment that I was the demon. Right before I was about the manifest in full infernal glory, my friend drew a gun and shot me in the temple. The bullet went through my brain in slow motion, while I got sixth sense style flashbacks to the various clues in the dream that led up to the realization.

It was one of the coolest dreams I've ever had. Felt very cinematic. My first thought upon waking up was "holy crap that was scary." My second thought was "holy crap that was AWESOME!"

I've died a number of times in dreams as well...stabbed, shot, neck broken, fall from a cliff or other high place, heart attack (which of all the things you would think might manifest in real life...), etc.

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
That dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had...

I once had a dream someone cut my head off with a pocket comb.

Hurt like the dickens.

Which version do you like better? The original Tears for Fears one or the Donnie Darko Gary Jules one?

I think it's the Tears for Fears one. I actually assumed the Gary Jules one came first because the Tears for Fears one feels more "remixy". I do like the music video for the Gary Jules version though. (Or at least "a" music video, not sure if there are multiple versions)

I often have dreams where bad "things" are chasing after me in some way. Terrorists, vampires, zombies, etc. Though after I dropped out of school, dream version of me got super powers. Now, whenever I have that style of dreams, I just blast the bad guys with my psychic powers, or beat them to a bloody pulp with my super strength or capture them with my spider net. I enjoy those dreams so much better then the old version.

I got shot in a dream once, in the gut. I woke up and it hurt where I was shot for about an hour and a half. [Embarrassed]

(I think I was in the second trimester of a pregnancy at the time, which is a time when I have very vivid, memorable dreams.)

Got to agree - freakin' awesome!

I only ever have dreams that end at the point where I am dying. Never do I 'live' on to observe or experience anything else after a fatal blow. I've driven off cliffs and drowned mainly. Drowning is SCARY. [Angst]

I die every night, always falling... Apparently death tastes, feels, and looks orange.

I was once shot in the gut in one of my dreams, I felt every agonizing second of it.

Bullets seem to be drawn to me like a magnet in my dream... no matter what I'm hiding behind, the bullet will find me.

Darth_Mauve I think your brain just made you participate inside a video/computer game. And your brain knows you can die over and over in those.... [Smile]

Is it bad that I only know about Mad World through Adam Lambert on American Idol?

Posted by Raymond Arnold (Member # 11712) on :

I know about it mostly through the Gears of War commercial, so I wouldn't feel too bad.
