So, Halloween is upon on, and I was planning on wearing my costume both to work on Friday(we have a contest) and to a costume party Saturday night. (Sidenote: how cool is it that Halloween falls on Saturday this year - I can't remember that happening when I was a kid)

I'm on the low-key end of things when it comes to Halloween; while I like to dress up in original outfits, I don't like to spend lots of money on costumes. This year I was planning on donning all green, head to toe, and taping a piece of poster board on my back. On the poster board I plan on making your typical nutrition label, and write "Ingredients: People" at the bottom.

Is this gonna fly over the heads of everyone? Informal polling of a few friends suggests so.

Anyone else doing something fun or dressing up?

Halloween hasn't been on a Saturday since 1998. I'm excited too!

Its a good idea and I approve. However, I do suspect that you will be reduced to Sheldon-like hinting to others about your costume.

That's the first thing I thought of. [Smile]

I like the idea.

It's not nearly as obscure as the Doppler Effect but there are still many who won't get it.

I think it's hilarious.

I was J. Alfred Prufrock once, and nobody got it. Still totally worth it.

I don't get it.

Who's Sheldon?

Has anyone gotten this yet?

He's a character on Big Bang Theory, who dressed for Halloween once as the Doppler Effect. Everyone instead thought he was supposed to be some kind of zebra.

People would ask what he was, and he'd say, "I'll give you a hint.... rrrrrrRRRRRRROOOOWWWWRRRRRRrrrrrrr..."

My husband and I dressed as Leon and Matilda. We went sure if anyone would get it... but suprisingly most everyone did or said you look like that movie.

Do you have any pics? If people got it, you must have been spot on.

I got the BBT reference actually. I don't know of a green food comprised of people.

So do I. But based on the blank stares from my co-workers, unless this is a very geeky crowd, you will definitely be explaining.

If you have a smart phone, I recommend uploading this and playing it to anyone who asks. [Wink]

Before Phil Hartman, I didn't either.

I'm sad that it took me about a minute to get the joke of your costume. I've actually never seen the movie but its part of pop culture so there's really no excuse.

I'm going as Bunnicula for my Halloween shift at the bookstore. I'm sure my bunny ears and vampire teeth are going to go over alot of heads but its the perfect opportunity to sell some books.

I also have a breakfast shift at my 50s-styled diner. I might be lazy and just throw on my devil horns. I just can't think of anything creative that wouldn't take forever to explain.

I got it instantly. For those of you that are stumped, it's a movie with Charleton Heston from 1973.

From the front side, I don't think anyone will get it. From the back, you'll get a mix of reactions determined largely by the awareness of the other party guests. It might be slightly easier if you were wearing a cube-like shape over the top rather than just in green clothes, but that would be difficult to work in.

And I think I may have to steal your idea for a future year.

Jhai: I loved your idea so much I tried it at our trunk-or-treat at church tonight. I did get a couple of laughs. It was dark out, so many people didn't see to read the label. And my 13-year-old got it right away - even before I was wearing it. I used a piece of cardstock with a hand-written label (very basic) and just wore it around my neck, with a green T-shirt and jeans.

And the 13-year-old made her costume based on the medic character from "Team Fortress 2." She did a little part in the haunted house at church, with bowls of "brains," "eyeballs," "fingers" and "guts" for people to feel. I picked up fake test tubes with gummy body parts at Wal-Mart at the last minute to go along with the spaghetti, peeled grapes, hot dogs and diced tomatoes.

Fun! I remember eating up those books when I was a child. You should carry around a head of cabbage or lettuce and pretend to sink your fangs into it.

It took me a second. I was trying to figure out some environmental message at first- like living green and then went oh, duh (before I read the answer). I read post to my husband and he got it immediately, not even a second of thought. He then lamented that he is never able to come up with anything clever like that. This year, we are going in Regency era clothing (initially inspired by my 33 month old's obsession with sense and sensiblity). Our "twist" is the zombyfication- making us Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!! So far, no one has got it, which was a bit surprising to me because I thought that book was popular. Maybe after the movie is made.

I just wanted to add: I got it, and I ain't ever even seen the movie. But I am a huge nerd, so that could explain it.

So did people get it?
