So things have been going great in my life, but suddenly felt very depressed and increased the dose of my antidepressant Remeron a week ago from Sunday. I am also on a stimulant for ADHD.

Since then, I've been feeling better. But a few days ago I noticed that when I went to the gym my heart rate was too fast. And yesterday the same problem occurred. Finally, today in the morning, as I was walking from class, I noticed that my heart was beating faster than it has ever done so.

Concerned, I sat down and measured it - 120 beats per minute. Then I took a walk a bit later and measured it again - 170 per minute.

And now when I measure it I get around 100-110. I don't know what to do.

Thoughts?

1) Don't change your dosage on your own.
2) What they said.

Talk to the gypsy lady in the woods, she will only require the life of your first born.

Appointments are subject to rescheduling, please arrive atleast half an hour before your appointment so you can try really hard to not stare at anyone else in the waiting room.

At rest my heart clocks in at over 100+ bpm. My father is the same way. It sucks because I can't donate plasma if I breach 100 bpm. The only way I can get it to consistently stay beneath that threshold is to exercise over a consistent period of time.

If this is a development that began when you started taking medication you should talk to your doctor about it.

I have a very high resting heart rate too. It seems to be around 120-130 bpm (according to the elliptical machine [Smile] ). Sometimes it feels as if my heart is beating so fast that I can practically feel it in my chest. It's definitely normal for me though -- it's happened all my life. It is probably one reason contributing to why I'm in such bad shape...

Try and slow your heartbeat down.

Getting plenty of omega-3 fatty acids will help thin your blood, so your heart won't have to work so hard. Eat them in moderation if you're on blood thinners, or have problems with clotting, excessive bleeding, etc. Good sources include fish roe, cod liver oil, fish oil, and grass-fed beef/lamb.

My resting heart rate was at about 52 BPM when I was a raw fruitarian, then got as high as 80 or 90 BPM when I started eating a lot of animal products again. When I started eating a lot of omega-3s, it slowed back down to about 60 or 65 BPM.

Fruit will also thin your blood, but use it in moderation...it ruins your cold tolerance.

And, of course, see your doctor. He may dial back your stimulant dosage a bit.

Post a thread on a random Internet forum asking advice on what to do.

Go see a health care professional, and don't alter doses without talking to them first. That's a fairly high heart rate even while resting, and needs to be addressed ASAP.

BTW, I just passed my LPN classes, and will be testing for my licence soon, so it's not like I have no experience with these types of things. I can't treat you online, but I strongly advise you to seek medical help as soon as possible.

(armchair advice from someone who doesn't know any of your history or current meds beyond what you've written)

The elevated heart rate is a common side effect of ADHD meds. I can't find any interactions between remeron and ADHD meds. I don't think you're in imminent danger. I suggest calling your prescriber. If you tend not to take your ADHD meds on the weekend, then I suggest not taking your ADHD meds until you hear from your prescriber.
