... "Marmaduke" is going to be a movie.

Marmaduke.

...

I've seen plenty of Hollywood releases that made me think "What a cynical attempt to cash in", and/or "How utterly lacking in artistic thought or originality". But this is the rare, truly mind-boggling, "WHO thought this was a good idea?!"

If they decide to attempt a Calvin and Hobbes movie, I will personally bomb Hollywood.

Not much chance of that. Watterson was always pretty tough on the idea of any merchandising. I'm sure he has endured two decades of offers at this point, and he hasn't given in yet.

Well, then he'll die, and his heirs will sell out quick enough.

Clearly, he'll have to live forever.

Or set things up so no one can sell the rights.

Owen Wilson.... why do you mock your too few quality productions and insist on making horrible things?

Considering the pains he went to in order to secure his work from merchandising in the first place, I think that's almost a certainty. But then, who knows? Maybe he won't begrudge his heirs the money it would bring.

If I were him, I'd have a lot of fun by putting the work in the public domain when he died.
