So after Exploder gave me backchat, I installed Firefox. Now I would like Firefox to behave in this manner: I want the 'Home' button to have a dropdown part, so that I can select one of my homepages for this particular tab to load. At the moment there's just the button, which creates five new tabs and loads one homepage in each one; this is not the behaviour I want. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

Safari for Windows is a good 5 times faster than Firefox. If it's speed you're wanting, that's the superior browser. [Smile]

Yes: I want to do it the way I'm used to doing it, and I don't want to waste valuable bookmark-list space on sites I've already got in my homepage list.

Make your "Home" button go to a local homepage, upon which you have 5 links. [Smile]

You could create a toolbar folder called Homepages and put in that all of your favorite homepages. It won't take up a lot of toolbar space and will do everything you want.

My toolbar has 5 folders and 27 link buttons. Very efficient.

What you want is two clicks as well, although one is a drop-down.

Drop-downs can be operated with one click (it's a click and drag motion actually, but one 'click' nonetheless)

I should rather have said "Two locate-the-spot mouse moves". Once I have my dropdown under the mouse pointer, I need only a tiny twitch of the fingers to get the right page. Hitting the home button, waiting for the page to load, and then moving the pointer across, say, a fifth of the screen, is a much higher cognitive load.

On my firefox setup I have different bookmark folders set up to run as drop down menus across the top toolbar. Maybe you can solve your problem by making a similar setup and label one such folder "Homepages"?

I don't think I described it very well, but I can take some screenshots and list the addons I used when I get home later.

Rivka, you need to click and hold the mouse button on the drop-down, drag your mouse to the item you want to pick, then release the mouse button.

I should point out that I'm doing this in a Windows OS. I have no idea if it works in Linux or with a Mac...

I don't know how frequently you use your home button, or how much comparative cognitive load you assign to click and drag vs. click-move-click, but I'd suspect that the amount of cognitive load you're expending on this problem would require a significant amount of click-move-click to overcome.
