Words cannot describe how awesome this movie is.

I'm tempted to emulate Unskippable and do some MST3K on these, these videos are awesome but they do leave themselves open to some jokes and innocent poking fun of.

Can you clarify whether this is more or less awesome than Space Battleship Yamato?

Can you clarify if your being more or less a whole horses arse?

Watch the video and then comment, otherwise your just being an horses arse.

Ugh. I couldn't sit through the whole thing.

The last decent Final Fantasy was the one for Super Nintendo, before graphics were good enough to make the game into a ridiculous anime.

The last decent Dead or Alive was... hm. Yeah. Get back to me on that one, I guess?

Blayne, why are you being so prickly? People on Hatrack make smart aleck remarks. A lot. It's, sort of a Hatrack thing. Surely this can't have escaped your notice in the five years you've been a member here, could it? People would be happy to laugh with you, not at you... if only you were laughing.

Because its no longer good natured fond ribbing but cynical douchebaggery, I don't appreciate it, I never have at best I pretended to tolerate it for the sake of getting along. It's an annoying condescending distraction of a meme that can shut up and die in the ashes of history.

And yeah the whole nostalgia filter complaint about "the last good Final Fantasy..." is hogwash, I like them all, I play FF for the cinematic experiance and distinct steampunk magitek setting the game presents me with and the stories are actually pretty good in every installment (yes even FF9) and cannot wait for my chance to play/watch FF13.

The point of the videos is fanservice, the proper kind, letting our favorite characters beat the ever loving crap out of each other and have fun doing so (up until the arrows anyways), kinda like a cinematic Smash Brothers but for Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, DoA and Ninja Gaiden.

Sorry, you lost me after the first run-on sentence. What were we talking about again?

Screw you.

In seriousness, I don't know what language "nostalgia filter complaint" is, but the Final Fantasy series as a whole is not actually... good.

They get more and more bloated and absurd with each iteration, but even the old ones weren't exactly fantastic. The original was just D&D for NES. And the Super NES iteration, 3 or 6 or whatever the kids are calling it these days, was fun and and all... but as soon as the technology was there to give everyone big hair and ridiculous outfits/weapons/techniques, Square leapt on it. This strongly indicates that it was their goal all along, it just didn't come through quite as clearly in the 8 and 16 bit systems.

I did. I was not impressed. But honestly I was not intending my original comment to be particularly mean spirited. Only, as you note earlier "good natured ribbing."

Which is a completely ignorant complaint, for one only FF7 had "unrealistic" hair designs as a result of the polygons being large, your just complaining about games you haven't played.

Final Fantasy 3 is what it is known Internationally, it is Final Fantasy VI is what it is known in Japan because only at the time 2 and 4 were known internationally its not about what the "kids are calling it" that's just condescending and ignorant it's just marketing.

As for FFI just being D&D for the NES... So? How is that a valid complaint for a 10+ year old game? How many RPG's can you name off the top of your head that existed back then that were not MUDs?

You also have a bizarre view of the progression, for one thing Final Fantasy isn't a western franchise and never was, it is from Japan and reflects the evolution in what is in demand from Japanese Otaku subculture.

Example if Revolvers Are Just Better and Katana's Are Just Better what is the logical next step? A Revolver Katana! Like the Gunblades from FF8 onwards, and the outfits aren't ridiculous they're fanservice! Like in Anime which is extremely and mind boggling popular in Japan and in North America if something is popular it is counter productive to deem it ridiculous.

you can't accuse them of doing this as some kind of evil plot but simply them styling their games to take into account the changing tastes of their fanbase In Japan it is not mandatory for them to consider what North Americans can or will think or what and you know what they do not have to.

Because that kind of stuff is popular here, if you don't want JRPG cliches then go play Oblivion or Fallout 3 and other "Grey and Brown" games.

Repeat After Me: People Like Anime, People Who Outnumber You. People Who Outnumber You Have More Money Then You.

Have you even played Kingdom Hearts?

Or watched http://gameoverthinker.blogspot.com/ ? He can explain a lot of whats going on behind the scenes that your just randomly pointing fingers at making egregiously incorrect guesses at.

Fanservice is itself ridiculous, you realize.

Bear with me here, Blayne. I may be back to respond to you shortly. I'm trying to decide if peeing into the wind is a worthwhile endeavor.

Only because its a matter of subjective taste for you to think it is silly when for us it just makes the action scene better.

We expect and want our characters to be dressed "cooler" then us because we don't want a story of boring normality with Captain Bland's Monotonous adventure we want interesting, we want it to excite us, we want it to feel something and immerse ourselves in it.

FF10 had underwater soccer! I never even thought that such a thing would be possible, it was mind blowing! The mini game itself was a little disappointing (being 2-D) but the concept itself was exciting.

And we of course will want our male and female characters to be dressed cool and revealing (respectively unless your female) when doing stunts in the under water soccer field.

Remember fanservice is anything that is included just for the sake of the audience which can range from Superman and Goku fighting it out to jiggle physics.

It has its place the question is does a particular show or video game have an egregious amount of it so it becomes a matter of fine tuning it, some go for admittedly too much but too little is its own damnation.

Afterall it wouldn't be a final fantasy game if the lead staff chick wore a Amish dress code or a Burka. We want Gym shorts and a tank top, running shoes with sparring gloves (Tifa) minimum.

While it can be agreed that the video game industry has been oversexualized in recent years (and why possibly there's a lack of female gamers) we can stand to gain alot more of the tame fanservice variety that Nintendo likes to dole out, rereleasing older game concepts but renewed like the recent Super Mario Platformer and the up and coming Super Metroid.

That and Super Smash Brothers is possible the best ur-Example of the non sexualized fanservice that I could do with a whole lot more of (the crossover of a dozen game franchises into one storyline).

We the fans like Swords, we like Revolvers, we like Gunblades, we like girls to be hot and capable of beating the crap out of us and dressed proud of their sexuality and we like it when the characters look cool doing it.

This sums up Final Fantasy and in general I like that direction though i wish we had more playing and less watching which I think the technology is heading towards eventually.

Are you quite aware that the tone of this is coming off as: "I create dozens of threads, and you should come to all of them prepared not only to take their subjects with the same solemnity that I do, but to have any dissent from my views on those subjects treated like a personal attack directed at my mother?"

Seriously, Blayne! Ease up, or you're going to find yourself proclaiming the virtues of the media you adore to an empty room.

Thing is I title the threads nowadays that it should be no illusion what I am discussing and being and by virtue of it being a forum you should have the self restraint to not click if you know its not something to catch your interest.

And to accentuate and finish my point.

Tropes Are Not Bad, as such Fanservice is not inherent bad or distracting and has its purpose the question is to use it well.

For example, in the Dead Fantasy videos there can be no such thing as egregious fanservice because by definition the video is about being as fanservicy as possible bringing in every major female action girl and get them to fight using Up To Eleven powers and abilities to make it as exciting and action packed as possible and make it last as long as possible, plot and characterization ceases to matter when its understood that the audience is expected to be fans who want this kind of adventure in absurdity made real and animated before their eyes.

Think of the Crank movies, every gun, action cliche, one liner, explosion etc from nearly every action movie are taken constructed, deconstructed, and reconstructed to make one movie where not only is everything used but used intelligently and this is what Monty Oum's videos are sorta about, taking every FF and Anime fight scene trope and cliche and make one damn exciting movie out of it that fans of the Final Fantasy and DoA series enjoy it to their hearts content.

For most movies and games you can honestly make a judgement call about when the line as been crossed and there is indeed "too much" of something but in Parodies and Pure Adrenline fueled fanservice videos like the ones above its a futile and irrelevant complaint to nitpick on.

Look up Haloid, you'll see what I mean.

I like all the Final Fantasy games, and I dislike all the Dead or Alive games.

There is nothing wrong with large and bizarre hair styles.

And blitz ball was underwater rugby, not underwater soccer. And I loved blitz ball.

I've liked things about all of the Final Fantasy games. I recently finished 13, and I have to say it was a very worthwhile experience. It was more linear than the other Final Fantasy games, however the story REQUIRED it.

There are really no strange hair styles in this game with the exception of the afro one of the characters has.

While the amount of Blayne's posts can be considered excessive, there is no reason to be rude. Especially since all you really have to do is ignore it if you want, and it will drift off into a different page.

Meh. The story only required it after they decided to make it linear, actually. Same with the whole "no towns" thing.

However, I can respect someone else's opinion that Final Fantasy has never been that good. I get why someone wouldn't like the series. Still, I've at least enjoyed them, though not equally. I'm not gonna go all fanboy about it, but they can be rather fun. Some certainly more than others.
