Well not exactly, but I needed to get people's attention. A few weeks ago Mrs. Card informed me that Papa Janitor no longer wished to moderate hatrack and had suggested that I might be a viable replacement. I took some time to think about it, and decided that I was willing to take her up on the offer.
If my name didn't give it away, you all would know me as BlackBlade. I'm just as surprised as you all most likely are that I will be moderating what has been the most important forum in my life. I'm trying to work closely with Papa Moose regarding his experiences moderating as well as establishing how I will do things, so as to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.
Firstly, I'd like to think that nothing major will change. You will still talk about things, and I will continue to chat with all of you. So relax, nothing unpleasant is about to happen.
Secondly, I didn't accept this responsibility because I enjoy having power, I accepted this responsibility because I love this place. I want to see it continue to exist. I want new people to come and be drawn into it. I want the regular posters to continue to enjoy each others company, as well as an environment where topics can be discussed, friendships formed, and community can be extended. At it's most basic level I think that is one of the most important things about being human, finding other humans to communicate with.
I was sad to hear that PapaJanitor didn't feel up to moderating anymore, I've always associated him in that capacity with this place. I certainly hope that he will continue on as a poster if he feels up to it. It's not my place to get into particulars, I think that when he is ready he will explain his own reasons for leaving.
Having said all that I welcome your comments and suggestions as to what would help this forum become an even better place for you. Thanks so much for being a great community, and a special thanks to the Cards for entrusting the care of such a wonderful place with me. I look forward to many many more happy years in this place.

I understand the stress that being a mod can put on a person. I am actually surprised that he lasted as long as he did. He is a better mod than I was.

I'm guessing that BB will continue posting as BB when BB wants to express an opinion outside of his role as JB and will post as JB when BB wants to put on BB's JB hat.
