I have a long video file. I want to chop it into multiple small files I can then move around and edit. Is there a way I can cut it up and export the scenes as unique clips all at once?

I know how to trim and export one clip at a time, but I am interested in doing a bunch of breaks and then exporting multiple clips.

I am using Vista with either Movie Maker, Roxio Pro, or Sony Vegas (on another machine in a different location).

It's much easier to trim and export one clip at a time in quicktime than do what you're asking.

You can literally ctrl-C, ctrl-N, and ctrl-V all the way through.

Quicktime free version? The music/video player?

Quicktime player, the free version. I can't find the tutorial I used a few weeks back, but you can use hotkeys just like in Final Cut in quicktime, set in and out points, and copy/paste into a new player window.
