Very neat film/special, I havent seen anything of Detective Conan (Cased Closed) yet but I probably will eventually, now here's what I find jarring.

The Castle Of Cagliostro takes place "late" in Lupin's career, but clearly takes place in the late Cold War...

But this movie still has Lupin as his jerkass handsome leech self! Implying this is still "early" in his career!

Gah! Time paradox! Divide by zero and the universe explodes!

... I have no idea what you're talking about. [Smile]

I have seen both the series he's mentioning, and I don't know what he's talking about either. So don't feel bad about it.

Anyway, Blayne, keep on keeping on.

Interestingly enough, The Castle Of Cagliostro was directed by Miyazaki

The latest movie is clearly circa 2010, with the use of laptops, cell phones, etc.

However chronologically, The Castle Of Cagliostro takes place "at the twilight of his career" according to Mr Miyazaki when he directed it, but clearly considering both East Germany and the USSR were at the Interpol meeting it takes place circa 1980.

Which leads to only one rational explantion, a universe shattering time paradox.

Or Lupin the III is a Time Lord, seriously to keep the timeline accurate you'ld need Lupin IV by now.

The point is I'm pointing out the fridge logic behind the continuality behind the latest Lupin release, and the one directed by Miyazaki and that at face value doesn't make any sense.

On the other hand one could handwave an explanation that it's just Russia and Germany and mentally MST3K away the flags to their modernized versions and put the movie at 2030 or something, ironically this would fit with the English dub which took place significantly long after it aired in Japan and as such had its dialogue "modernized" for the North American audience (such as having Simpsons references).

I imagine if I take a hammer and work on it long enough I can get the continuality to fit if I'm allowed to sans offputting details that muck up the timeline.

Blayne: Where in the heck does Conan fit into all this?

Also I think you are reading into chronology far deeper than Mr. Miyazaki ever did.

Because the latest movie, as I said in my original post, was "Detective Conan vs. Lupin III", in short, it was a crossover tv special/film between Detective Conan/Case Closed and Lupin III. Which clearly takes place circa 2010, while The Castle Of Cagliostro takes place in the future of Lupin's career but looking at the setting appears to be 1970s.

Mr. Miyazaki had stated that when he directed The Castle Of Cagliostro it takes place "in the twilight of his career" with a flashback showing Lupin acting as his rogueish self which Lupin in the film said "I was foolish once".

Ok I think I understand. On one hand we have a movie where a character is old, but is set in the 70's or something, on the other hand we have a movie that is set in modern times, but the same character is young. Therefore, he must be a Time Lord.

I get it!

*Dramatically falls to floor, dying happily knowing that he understands*
