Fact: Men spend 65% of their time imagining new superpowers.

Is this a relative new, as in, new to them personally, or a wider new, as in superpowers that haven't been conceived of yet?

If it's the former, I totally fit the profile. If it's the latter, I don't see it.

I spend a lot of time behind the wheel of my car imagining Laser Beams of Death(R) transfixing my fellow motorists. Does this count?

I personally am imagining the same super powers over and over in different situations, guess I'm just lazy.

Imaginging up superpowers is the elementary crap. What's hard is making it into a cohesive story that doesn't suffer from power creep, plot holes, and the like.

When Im daydreaming at work I think about the power to control gravity. Literally the ability to create various degrees of gravitational force, flatten a car to the thickness of paper or not be restricted by gravity at all.

Imagine a character who could "fly" by floating up in zero-g and then falling in the desired direction once high enough. Make it funny though, have him wear an AirForce pilot helmet and air tank so he can breath regularly.

Heroes took my only other unused idea, the black-hole guy dissapeared way too fast for having such a cool power.

It's an established fact that men spend 90% of their time thinking about sex. Therefore, many (if not most) the superpowers they imagine will never will never make it into a PG13 movie.

The superpowers can make it into PG13 movies just fine, they just won't be used as awesomely.

Those two thoughts really don't mix well anyway...

Heh. I read the opening post to mean "Men spend 65% of their time imagining new nations with colossal international power."

"Everybody wants to rule the world." (Tears for Fears)

I must not be male enough.

I have no need to imagine powers; I already have the Ultimate Power, the master technique of techniques.

I have an even better technique, the one where I laugh at fools.

I imagine new superpowers that nobody has ever had. and a backstory. and a plot. and enemies. and tragic losses.

cue the Kanye "No man should have all that power"

Perhaps because this connection is so intimate, the Ultimates regard one who loses their Ultimate Power permanently - without hope of regaining it - as schiavo, or "dead while breathing".
Classy bunch of obsessives there, natch

That line does frustrate me because I otherwise think it's a pretty awesome essay.
